I wasn't aware they taught 14 year olds to read nowadays?

Try putting sand in your inlet when the engine's running. It's a cheap way to polish your ports. Thumbs Up

Yes, polishing your ports means a smoother airflow into the engine, and therefore increases power. Thumbs Up

Four-stroke tuning is not exactly a simple art. It's even less so for a 125 single, if that's what you're thinking.
Open up the airflow a bit, re-jet the carb to the necessary point, and that's what you're likely to safely get out of it.
There is an awful lot more that can be done, but it involves gas-flowing, cam-shaping and other such fun. It's potentially a massive expenditure for what would only bring a few hp more.

depends on the engine though TBH!
Engine size, emissions regs, state of tune, and availability of aftermarket parts, and access to ECU re-mapping, can add a little or quite large percentage gains to an engine really.

Are we talking a bike or car engine? lets not forget that:

1, modern engines can be quite compromised in power, throttle response, torque etc, to suit emissions regs, noise regs, traction control or softening of the power delivery to aid a smooth and predictable power delivery. Also torque may be limited to preserve or extend the life of the drivetrain, or in certain gears to possibly make the performance less sharp or brutal etc.

2, Fuel economy is a big factor too, so direct injection, Lean burn strategys, and EGR etc can all contribute to higher economy, but these things don't often do much for performance.

3, Some engines are quite restricted in their std form, for reasons such as space constraints for decent exhaust systems and airbox designs, so packaging an engine into the vehicle can rob it of more power in some installations than in others.
