4 pin indicator relay...Why? when 2 pins will do

Replaced indi with LED ones and they flash to quickly so I bought a new relay (solid state) to replace the standard one.
Now the new relay is 2 wire as expected but the old one is 4 pin. Heres the layout ( of the standard relay/loom)

Red/green = 12v Pos
Green = Neg earth
White/green = 12v pos
Gray = to indicators and hazards

Thankfully someone on a honda forum worked out you only need white/green (to red wire) and Grey (to black wire) to make the indi's work, but I'm just curious why the other two wires exist, does a standard UK relay need -ve earth and an extra 12v supply, if so why?

The US version of my bike doesnt have the extra 2 wires (2 pin relay as standard)

Although they don't have hazard warning lights, my hazards still work using 2 of the 4 wires, anyone in 'the know' solve the mystery

Your std 4 pin relay is all mechanical with moving internal parts, and maybe the electrical loading is too much for one wire. Or it is simply easier to make using 4 pins.

Where as you new solid state has no moving parts so can be wired up internally to remove the other pins.
