hi everyone. as some of you may know im looking at getting a bike when im 17. i went to a showroom today (uk's biggest Very Happy) https://www.dkmotorcycles.co.uk/ and had a look around. i was goint to look at the honda nsr 125 but they didnt have any and i fell in love with the aprillia rs 125's. brand new for £3000. ive heard that they tend to tear them selves apart and need lots of servicing but the salesman said if i treat it well it wont be any more trouble than a 4 stroke. you just cant mistreat them. is he telling the truth or lying like alot of salesmen do? also he said it was restricted to be cbr legal. are these any good?. finaly is that a fair price? thanks

Yes it'll be fine if well treated, yes they are fine in restricted form, and £3k sounds about the going rate for them.

DK are known for over pricing there bikes, i went there last Monday and bikes that i was after were over priced by a fair amount.

An RS125 is a decent bike, everyone knows this, there's hundreds of threads on them, but they will need top end rebuilds etc at certain mileage intervals, all 2 pokes do!

Do a search on RS125 an there's tonnes of info about them man. An RS produces above 25bhp de-restricted i think, but to be valid for a 17 year old, it'd have to be below 13bhp iirc.

It'll still be quick, jus not as fast up hills, headwinds etc.

Nothing wrong with red lining them once properly warmed up.

The bike is alright.

However I would do a search on here about DK motorcyles, a couple of interesting threads shall we say.

If you intend on passing your test and then moving to a bigger bike, get the NSR125 as it will save you a lot of cash for a bigger bike when you pass.

If you don't intend on grabbing a bigger bike soon, just grab an RS125, don't see the point in buying it new though, take a look around for a second hand one as they are going cheapish now I imagine. Thumbs Up.

it will have to last about 2 years probably. i will get it when i get my cbt. and then pass my full test as soon as possible. then after 2 years i can get a 600cc bike. i only wanted new as the second hand where only bout £300 less in dk. but i will probably get second hand. i would be a bit worried though as i dont nkow anything about bikes and might buy a wreck.

Hi, I ran an RS125 for about 18 months and covered about 10,000km on it. Never had a problem apart from when I first got it the previous owner had badly adjusted the clutch and burnt it out. It was a fantastic bike, really good fun and I wish my current bike would handle like that thing did.

On another note, DK are known for more than just inflated prices. I would do a search on here for DK before you even contemplate buying there. I bought a 6 month old bike from a local dealer that had originally been bought at DK. It had only covered 200 miles. When I got it up to 500 miles for the first service it turned out it had far too much oil in it. They have a high turnover of bikes and dont seem to care about aftercare.

Either way, good luck! Wink

RS125 is reliable when you know what you are doing.. They break usually when people derestrict them without any knowledge about the process..

Restricted RS125 is pretty much as undestructable as 4 strokes.. all you need is to keep your oil tank full on top of basic maintenance. It needs pistons and rings changed every 10k miles or so.

Derestricted RS125 should be reliable as long as it's derestricted properly (correctly rejetted etc.) and not redlined all the time.. A blast here and there at 12k rpm from time to time shouldn't be a problem. It likes ragging in powerband, but there is a line between ragging and abusing.

Use good 2 stroke oil ie. Castrol TTS or Motul 710 and you will be fine.

I say you buy a CG125.... But i'm biased...

Who needs speed when you have peace of mind that if you do spill, it's gonna cost peanuts to repair rather than what it would cost for an nsr/rs...

Mate of mine (blindweezy) got quoted £200 for the side fairing on his NSR....

It's a 125, no point in getting done for doing silly speeds when you don't even have your full licence.

Plus, a CG will hold it's value MUCH more than a 2t 125...

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION Mr. Green
