Went to grab my helmet and gloves and leave for work this morning, when I realised that I'd forgotten to bring them in when I got home last night. (I usually plonk them on the wheely bin while I manhandle the bike into the back garden.)

Needless to say, they've since wandered off during the night, so now I've got to go and spend £200 odd on new helmet and gloves... just what the bank account needs.... Rolling Eyes

As I need the bike asap for work I'm at the mercy of the local bike dealers, rather than being able to take my time finding the best deal online. King's Two Wheels have got a matt black one I like that I looked at before, forgot the make now, but it's a full face (not flip up) matt black (that 'soft' sort of finish with interior sun visor for £150, but he said he'd do it for me for £130.

At least the helmet I've lost was a cheapo Ducini, but I'm annoyed about the gloves as they were fairly new and were a nice fit as well. Still, at least one good thing is that I didn't drop my bike keys in as I normally do.

So, if you're offered a silver Ducini (Med) with a crack in the r/h side plastic aerostrip things (or whatever they're called) and a pair of black GPL gloves in Oxfordshire, then please grab the suspect and hold them till I get there with a pair of pliers and my CIA 'Torture for Dummies' book.

Always annoying when these things happen.

I have dropped my keys on the path before and in the garden (took me ages to find them) and left it over night. Usually happens when it's cold and I don't feel them fall out my hands. Very scary. Thankfully they have always still been there though.

I'm forever leaving my keys in the bike. There was one day where I got to work and left the keys in the bike for 4 hours. Then on the way home popped into the takeaway for tea and left them in the bike again. Then got up the next morning looked out the window and the keys were in the ignition all night as well. I have a shite memory.

Once or twice I've left my house keys overnight in the garage door when it's wet, since I then just shut the garage door behind me and go through the garage into the house. These days we're extra vilgilant with keys though, and have specific places we leave them every night. So if they're not there we look for them until they're found! Thumbs Up

Not sure how much help it'll be - but there's a Dodgy kid (17 / 18yo maybe) working at J&S in Leeds who'll sell you pretty much anything you want for about half price if you meet him "round the back in 5 mins"

someone i know got a Matt black Duchini helmet with built in flip down visor from him for £50.

One of our sixth formers left their lid lying about yesterday and it went missing. The sixth form rang me and asked if a I had a spare lid to borrow...err NO!! I'd have happily taken the kids bike home so long as I could get a lift back to work but I don't intend on loaning my lids out. Not sure if it was the kid with the Gilera DNA 50 or the CBR125.

Bit too far for me to be useful, thanks, but if ever I'm in Leeds I'll look him up for some discount goodies Smile

Wow, good deal! Well, I've just called them to see exactly what is it, and apparently it's a HJC IS16, which by all accounts seems to be a good choice of lid.

Quite looking forward to getting it now Very Happy

I managed to lose my wedding ring earlier this year, after a couple of days hunting around everywhere to no avail, i found the receipt from the jewellers, rang them up and they had a replacement in stock. I wasn't a happy bunny because of a) sentimental value, and b) it wasn't especially cheap to replace.

This was at the time when we'd had a decent covering of snow, and it was just starting to melt.

As i went out to get into my car, something caught my eye, and there was my wedding ring lying on the pavement, in the snow, next to my car!

What must have happened was, when i was previously clearing my car of snow, my hands must have shrunk from the cold and the ring had slipped off into the snow. It was only when the snow had started to melt a little that it became visible again.

Phew!

I've 'lost' my bike key numerous times, usually when i've ridden it up into town. I usually leave it in the pillion seat lock, although i have left it in the ignition a few times too!
I reckon the reason my bike never got nicked was because of the good karma i accumulated by once finding someone else's bike with the key in the ignition, taken the key out and left a note with an explanation and my phone number on it.

(Before anyone points out that it could just have been a random stranger who found the note, i had nothing to do that day, so i sat on a nearby bench and had my lunch and chilled out for a while. I saw the bloke go back to his bike, and the look of panic before he read the note was clearly visible on his face!)
Karma, it's marvellous.

Thumbs Up

I've also spent ages looking for them and found them in the seat lock. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I was bloody lucky once, was out on the BMW with the wife and we decided to pop into an antique fair. After about 10 minutes wandering around, I got a tap on the shoulder, and a bloke held up my keys and mobile phone - "Are these yours"?

I'd left them on the seat Embarassed

People assume that if the keys are in the ignition, then it must be a trap.
https://norunnyeggs.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/its-a-trap.jpg

Left the keys in the ignition overnight and spent ages panicing and looking for them. But that was in my garden, behind a locked gate, with a chain and disc lock.

Absolutely tore my house apart a few months ago looking for my SV keys. Turned out I'd tossed them into my helmet (steady on...) when coming in from the garage and didn't see them as my gloves were also stuffed into my helmet.

'Fine then' said my aggravated missus who'd been roped into looking, 'but you still haven't found the spare keys' (which were also missing)

A serendipitus moment followed whereupon I reached into my box of assorted bike cleaning bits and produced the spare key, saying 'ah, here it is'. I thought she was going to kill me!

her -> Mad me -> Laughing

I'm such a shit cunt when it comes to losing keys. I always do something last minute before going on the bike and put them down in an obscure place like ontop of a wardrobe or out of sight somewhere and spend 20 minutes trying to find them.

I have left the keys in ignition for an hour an half outside tesco before, dangling out the back of the seat lock all day whilst parked outside my mates and even worse, leaving the double doors to the garage open all night with 3 bikes in there.

Haha, I did this 3 days ago. Stumbled indoors late the night before and was in bed and just out of it about 5 minutes later. I wake up early in the morning, get ready and walk out the door only to find my helmet still resting on the seat of my bike Laughing

I can't believe it was still there but I can say that I'm very, very happy it didn't go walkies. Thankfully I haven't yet done this with my door keys Shocked
