I'm gonna anyway, Very Happy

I'm over the moon, I got an offer of a new job the while back and finally sat down this morning with the new boss to learn my wages today.

It's 10k more than I was expecting! Shocked , I nearly started laughing in the meeting. I've been smiling all the way home, I randomly burst into laugher I'm amazingly happy. I've been dreaming of Hypermotard for a while now I can seriously think about it Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

So for the sake of the thread what has made you so happy you maniacally burst into laughter at random intervals. No talk of Kids being born please Razz

Whoever said money can't buy you happiness may be right, but the idea of it makes me ecstatic. So on the to buy list next year, house with a garage and a Hypermotard 1100s Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Today is a brilliant day Thumbs Up

Nice one! Thumbs Up

I could do with an extra £10,000 a year.... it would cover all my student fees and loans! You must be pretty happy, no more night shifts and an extra £10,000!

When I pasted my motorbike test I road home grinning like a special. There are others but I am not going into detail Embarassed

Not quite bursting into laughter happy, but there was absolutely nothing anyone could have done to piss on my fireworks when I wrote the cheque that paid off my mortgage, which was also the equivalent of a 10k raise Thumbs Up

Hardly Silver spoon, My parents are fairly well off but I was skint at uni, to the point I couldn't afford new headstock bearings for the RXS so took it off the road.

I've worked solidly (or been at uni) since I was 17 and I worked 13 days of 12/14 hour days in 14 days to afford my first bike.

I've struggled financially at times in my life and now i'm reasonably comfortable.
Whilst money gives you more choice and freedom to do as you please, it does not buy you happiness. Money just buys you stuff and that stuff gives you pleasure, but pleasure is a short lived emotion, whereas happiness is a state of mind.
The things that truly give you happiness is family & friends and health. Without that money means jack shit.

Fair enough, I get abit overly defence about stuff like that, some people seem to assume because you have nice stuff you haven't earn't it. Although being fair I honestly don't think I can justify the money I will be getting, not that I'm complaining.

The Job may sound boring but to me it is really interesting. I look taking bikes apart, I call love taking PC's apart and understanding software. Plus where I'm going I get I really good grounding in multiple systems and databases. This means progress from here to a super techy 3rd line roll should be easy in a few years either that or project managing but I would honestly prefer a techy roll.

I'm like a mechanic, but with databases and data movement. Laughing

Congratualtions.

Last year I got a back dated payrise which should have induced some sort of ear to ear based grin but it didn't mostly due to how much was left after the tax man got his slice.

Also, and I say this entirely with out rancour: Citing not being able to buy a headstock bearing for your RXS resulting in it being taken of the road, isn't exactly pushing the envelope in terms of poverty.

Now if you'd said 'tin of tesco basic beans for your tea...'

If anyone genuinely believes money can buy you happiness then your very naive.

I'm no happier now that I have a decent income than when I was proper poor at college.

The thing is, at this level it's never going to be enough. A few grand here or there, from a material point of view, there'll always be something just beyond your means.

Now, the euromillions jackpot is £51 million apparently. I think that might make even me, a confirmed miserable bastard crack a smile. But only in terms of those material things in life, spiritually it'll probably do more harm than good.

Generally these days, I have enough. It would be nice to have a wee bit more, but money worries are relative; £25k pa or £50k pa, different amounts, similar worries.

Thumbs Up

i`m not naive in that respect and i dont "believe" it would...i KNOW it would.

Dom_ wrote:

That`s you though...doesnt mean everyone thinks like you or wants the same things in life that you aspire to.

I`ve had reasonably well paid jobs in the past but in that sense the money didnt bring any happiness because a lot of my time was spent doing stressful crappy things to keep me in that pay grade and i hated it.The money wasnt exactly LOADS either..it was just good.

Now some people say happiness comes from friends and family because thats whats important to them, but again thats not what makes everyone tick....its only what they find to be the number 1 priority in their lifes.

I know for fact that a lot of money would buy me happiness because happiness for me would be going wherever i wanted whenever i wanted, buying whatever i liked when i saw it,and being totally free of any financial commitment for the rest of my life.
You can argue that i`m naive and dont know what i`m talking about...but i know myself a lot better than you do.

Now if you said to me that money wouldn`t give me inner fulfilment...i`d agree with you.But i`d be too busy living it large and being HAPPY to stop and think about all that tbh.
I`ve got inner fulfillment right now(nice house, good woman, comfortable life)....but it doesnt make me "happy"...it just makes me content with the life i`ve got now.
For money to make someone truly happy....that person has to have been rock bottom to appreciate it when they get it again. (and i`ve been there....trust me i have.I dont mean a bit poor..i mean ROCK FUCKING BOTTOM/SKID ROW)

As cuba gooding jnr once said ..SHOW ME THE MONEYYYYYYYY Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

Money is, according to a wankword bingo management training course I was once subjected to, a "hygiene factor". Since we've mostly lost the ability to provide for ourselves (food, shelter, clothing) we have to use the stuff. Up to that point, yes it can buy happiness.
