PostPosted: 15:10 - 28 Oct 2009    Post subject: Helmet graphic custom spray? Reply with quote

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a custom helmet spray guy?

I accidentally knocked my helmet on a wall and it has a minor scratch. Anyway, I wanted to add some graphics to the black helmet (not the whole helmet - just conveniently over the scratch area...

Is this possible, without damaging the helmet and without costing the earth?

If anyone could recommend anywhere that is competitive that'd be great.

Thanks

for a decent double action air brush and compressor, paints etc to start out could cost you around 150 quid+

I don't want to undercut artists or graphic designers' work, but I'm not looking for hi-end work like this. Just a single graphix to cover up the scratch!

Or a sticky transfer would do!

make it more clear, do you want a kit e.g. compressor and gun and paint or do you want to pay someone else to do it?

ebay for stickers but you wont find many curved like helmets...

oh. I did say 'custom spray guy'......

I'm not up to the job myself. I wouldn't know how to prep' the surface of the helmet nor spray without getting everything all over me...

I think me and blindweezy read it as spray gun not spray guy...

Anyway, it depends. They could touch it up for £5 then prices would go up depending on design.

I do remember someone saying it's illegal to spray helmets now due to the 'structural problems' it causes (can't see it myself)

O please.

That makes a fair amount of the helmets used in club to national level racing illegal. Plenty of racers have custom painted lids by people like Rich Art concepts. Not to mention all the cutom motorcycle and chopper riders with custom sprayed helmets.

No laws against stickers, or paint being used on helmets, it's just not advised unless you know what you're doing.

I know Bendy painted G's helmet for him, but I don't know what paint she used. Thumbs Up

First google hit of a sprayer:

https://www.bikepaints.co.uk/helmets.htm

Rich Art Concepts is also used by lots of racers as stated above.

I used this guy for my helmet: Ace of Sprays. Has loads of pictures of his work on there, my helmet included. Mr. Green.

Brilliant bloke, cheap too, for what Ultimate Airbrush or w/e wanted about £800 for, he did for £350. Brilliant paint job too.

Thanks for the thoughts guys ~ it's a real reality check especially with those prices!

I think I'll find a sticky antenna, rabbit ears or a ginger mohican to stick over mine. Might be a lot cheaper Rolling Eyes

I've got a plain matt-black helmet. When it gets a bit tatty, I spray it with rattle cans. I probably do it once every three months or so. Looks good as new when it's first done but it doesn't last very long.

Wow!

Is that loud or .... !

Looks very interesting. Any views on the finish/quality?

I find that Arai helmets tend to scuff really quickly. I've switched over to Shoei for a while. I love the whisper quiet lightness of the Shoei too. Don't want too much paint spray to add more to it...

Suggarr Shadow.

What are you doing? Compiling the complete character set from Bugs Bunny to Elmer Fudd in a limited edition Looney Tunes collection?

Lol. Quite different from Elmer Fudd then.

I've never been sure about having a skull on mine. Maybe that's just me being too much of a numptie and thinking people will call me a bone head (groan)....

They should be sprayed with a waterbased paint,
as the solvent in 2k paints mainly could damage the shell sometimes, but thats the same with the solvent on certain sticker glues.
