yamaha rx50 start problems, pls help

i just bought a yamaha rx50 from ebay. The bike has a problem when starting.

First I can't get it started, but if i get it started then it just behaves as if I am holding the throttle to full (throttle is on idle). I checked the cable and its fine. I can get it to start by using clutch and running down the road, but when it runs it behaves the same way.
Any suggestions what could be the cause.

Have you adjusted the mixture and idle settings on the carb? I don't know anything about that particular bike but to me it sounds like carb settings.

Hi

This may seem like a silly suggestion. On a lot of bikes it is possible to put the slide in the carb the wrong way round. They often fit in, and you can put the top on the carb but the slide is held on full throttle.
