Hi guys,

Some of you may remember my gym thread, never materialised, couldn't afford to go in the long run so gave it a miss. Anyhoo, been looking at starting working out at home, and have a bit of money to put into a gym machine, but which is best? I have enough space in the gym room for a few things, already got a weights bench and dumbbells and a rubbish cycle, after something that I won't hate having to do after a while. Also need cardio mostly but anything after that is a bonus.

My top considerations are:

Rower
Cross trainer
Treadmill (at a push)
Cycle (Really don't wanna but if its the best its the best)

Opinions? Also remember the whole hernia thing, its been nearly 7 months so its as good as healed but still need to take into account.

Cheers!

Anyway, back on topic you ginner!

No because there is an exemption for an untaxed vehicle being taken for a pre arranged MOT.

All the best

I thought there would be, though I still don't want to have to piss around fighting it if its one of those mobile units! In that case I think I will tax and mot her next week, can sell it for more then!

Cheers guys!

To be honest, for a decent one of any of that list, you're gonna need a fair bit of coin. A cross-trainer and/or a treadmill is largely pointless, to me at least, just go run in the park for free. Sure it's got all those different programs, but when all is said and done the same principle is at hand.

I find rowing machines incredibly boring, and usually give up after 5 minutes. I never feel it on my back or legs, just my arms, and then I feel if I wanted to excercise my arms, I'd do some curls or something.

Excercise bike........just get a real bike! On a real bike at least you can check out some scenery and find out different routes that test you on different levels, trust me it is much better than staring at the wall whilst pedalling endlessly but going nowhere.

I think the best investment you could make is a punch bag, a wall bracket, and a skipping rope. 10x3 minute rounds on the punch bag will have you praying for a quick death, throw in your bobbing and weaving footwork as well and you've got a good recipe for getting super-fit.

Skipping ropes are suprisingly knackering as well, I remember going to boxing classes and the dude handed me a rope. I was all like "Ha! yeah ok, i'll have a skip with you mate, I'll bring my skirt next time shall i?". Imagine how much of a prat I looked as the instructor is whirrling he's away like rocky balboa whilst im panting like a knackered trout after 3 mins and struggling to do more than 5 loops without catching my foot Very Happy

So yeah, in summary, punch bag, set of gloves, skipping rope, wall bracket, decent mountain bike, maybe a good pair of running trainers, and after all that you'll some loot leftover to treat yourself to a few pints for all your hard work! Thumbs Up

I hit myself with a stick. Thatway i'm always in tip top shape for S&M
Also use a rowing machine and have maintained my bod quite well for 42yr old. I can workout most muscle groups without having to pound iron or pound roads.
Headphones on and sweat Thumbs Up

I do staircase, many times a day without even realising. Often because what I want is up n not down or down n not up. Or the phone rings when you get to the top, or when you get down your boy calls n you need to go back up - its quite neverending and very cheap.

Do some stuff from here, buy the book never gymless if you want to have a good read.

Basically get some form of pull-up bar sorted then just use basic excercises in various ways. Comparable to army training in many ways but even more masochistic.

No heavy weights really needed so not much chance of injuring yourself or causing problems to your previous injury. Don't bother buying any machinery as you will end up finding it a waste.

I used to have a cross trainer type machine, and used it very regularly for a few years...if I had the space I'd get one again.
