hi guys

what do you all think is a better bike between the two?

ive sat on both (not ridden yet) and cant make my mind up on which one id buy, faired or naked?

being my first bike and all im totally confused! i felt the SV650S had a a bit more lean over seating position, but not that bad actually.

so which one would you go for?

S or Non S?

ohh the choices!!!

Can you get a test ride? The S has a lower, "sportier" reach to the bars, and apprently slightly different gearing. The fairing will come in very handy if you do any motorway or A road work, and may even be easier to sell on when the time comes.
I quite enjoy the girlfriend's one, very light steering and effortless.

Personally, I'd have an N (unfaired) but thats just me.

They are identical bikes at the end of the day so you're the only one who can distinguish between the two.

square root of sod-all difference really. Footpegs and gearing are different, can't think of anything else significant.

If you're really looking for a sensible way to decide, look at what kind of riding you do or are expecting to do.

More town - naked
more touring - fairing

damn, forgot to say, ive just passed A2 test so will be restricting it also, which ive been told its just a plug in ECU module?

cant see my self doing any commuting on it, as i will be on it only weekends so maybe not many motorway miles, so mainly A and B roads i think.

Thing with being on an A2 license, how easy is it for me to get a test ride on these bikes?

just need ti find the right deal and sell my current bike (CBR125) or part ex it in at a dealer.

If it's possivle to attach GIVI screen on SV650, it's also one option if you fond of bar handle. But I am not sure if I can remove a meter visor over its head light.

I found some example photos. Looks like it's possible.

Get the naked SV, SV's should all be naked, In my humble opinion they look disgusting and flimsy with fairing.

Its kind of like someone rocking up to school with 4 stripe addidas (or faddidas), No one thinks its a sportsbike, the fairing is fooling no one, and before someone says anything about motorway miles, grow some neck msucles ya pansies Razz

I've got an S and it's really going to be down to where you'll be riding and how much you like the lower bars on the S version. Cruising around town in traffic might be hard on your hands and wrists (ymmv), but when you're leaned forward on the motorway it's fine.

I've had both and would say that the naked was the better bike. The engine suited the more relaxed position of the naked. Comfort wise there was very little difference I thought. The n model has 1 tooth more on the rear sprocket for a tiny bit more poke too.

Ive had both faired and unfaired.

The lack of wind protection really makes the nekkid a lot of effort/uncomfortable to ride at >60mph, you get over a ton and you need a new neck!! Laughing

Its a good speed limiting device, but its a pain in the neck (literally) if you do fast or long distance.

I got a fly-screen for mine in the end and that helped a bit, but it doesn't look as good as the bike nekked in my opinion ...

Also if you are a winter rider, the fairing keeps the rain and cold off a bit ... the N is a lot nastier to ride in the winter ...

If you do go the N route, then I have a fly screen I kept from mine!! Smile

Get the nekkid.

I owned one and it was a cracking bit of kit.

Problem with the faired version is that its not a traditional bike or a sports bike. Its a half arsed attempt that falls in between the two.

Cant realy see the appeal of it.

I suppose it depends what we mean by 'better' bike ... if you like the nekkid look - and how it looks is the only consideration, then the nekkid is for you. But from a practicality point of view (and in some aesthetic eyes) the SVS is far better ...

I got nekkid......

Because I liked the look of it and buying 2nd hand it was cheeper.

I have got a fly screen on mine and it does give you a break from the wind at motorway speeds (you do look like a ped-boi trying for 43mph with the belly on the tank, arse in the air posture required though).

Bargin hard for a big discount if you like the nekkid as its now discontinued!

Just to throw in another opinion, I plan to go for a naked when I pass my test in a few weeks. My only reasoning is aesthetics, I'm really not a fan of half faired bikes. The fully faired doesn't look to shabby, but are fairly rare and quite a bit more expensive IMO.

I had a faired SV as a hire bike for 5 weeks.

I'd much rather have had the naked version.

I love it!

The Faired SV outsells the Naked by 10 to 1 but BikeChatForums says get nekkid....

A faired SV is what you get on your way to a GSX-R and points for speeding.

A Naked SV is what you get on your way to a Speed Tripple and points for wheelies.

Get the nekkid and grow some neck! Its fine, I often do a couple hour motorway stint on my naked FZ6, and its fine unless your are super scrawny.

I have the SV650s and intially had issues with my wrists and back ache. Then I discovered the correct riding position change the screen to a double bubble and all issues went. The SVs is a much better looking bike in my oppinion but everyones oppinion is different so you need to go for what suits you.

I was going to get the naked bars for the SVs which can be done, so I would have the looks of the SVs but the feel of the naked.

Go and test both and see which you feel most comfortable on. If you get the naked you cant change the bars to feel like the SVs (would look wrong) but you can the other way round.

Good luck in your choice.

Naked with a decent fly screen if you need one. The 's' is girlie. Or the better option, f*ck it off and get a hornet. Thumbs Up
