OK, so I went to fetch my Mito today after much anticipation only to find that the lovely blokes at the shop have not fitted the data tag I paid for or have any stock of the chain lock I was promised. Evil or Very Mad

So I started out on my way when two minutes down the road the petrol and oil lights flick on Grrr! So I hit the nearest petrol station to fill up an get some oil, that done, great, on my way again. Except I wasn't, the uneven ground and steepness of bank I was on waiting for the lights to change caused my footing to fail and my baby went over with me on it Embarassed

To makes matters worse, Shaun came back to me after getting her upright again (with the help of two blokes I recognized Embarassed) and the bike wouldn't start. Tried to get it going again, tried to bump it but nothing, so beaten I call out the AA recovery. Reaction time was quite impressive, half an hour. When explaining to the man what had happened I see the cause of the problem. I had only gone and hit the 'kill switch' when it went over! So after many laughs and much embarrassment, I have decided to have a break for a while. Give Shaun and myself a good laugh at the time though! Laughing

It was funny after and lucky that your fairing survived with only a minor scratch apart from that no damage! well done!

It was rather stupid of you not to notice that the kill switch was down though! Rolling Eyes

Hmph! You were trying to get it started for about 5 minutes, and you even said "I remember my bike sounding like this once WHEN MY BATTERY WENT FLAT", so you, who have more biking experience and 'know so much about bikes' didn't notice either, can't be mocking me?! :twisted evil:

Hi

At least you got your bike picked up. We have all dropped bikes (well, most of us) for various reasons. Don't worry about it, just treat it as a learning experience (same for the kill switch.......bet you won't do that again Laughing )

By the way, most garages only stock cheapo 2 stroke (OK, they do charge the earth for it). You are probably best sticking to a decent quality 2 stroke oil on the Mito

All the best

Unfortunately it then went from bad to worse!

After she had spent 3 hours at my house being a bit shaken up she plucked up the courage to get back on! I rode it round to a quiet area that she would be able to practice on then went home to fetch my bike!

I did notice that the gear box was slightly stiff but thought nothing of it, this problem gave helen lots of trouble causing her to stall it once and then she tried again. I'm sorry to say this scotty but it was its own fault for having a crap gearbox, when she was trying to force the gear lever into second she kind of lost her balance causing her to drop it on its other side! Only damage is a minor scratch which is hardly noticeable and the end of the clutch lever snapped off but her pride is hurt and she was a bit shaken by it all!

however because I was riding in front of her when she went down and I saw it happen in my mirror I managed a very speedy u turn Very Happy but that is its only bonus.

Anyway if anybody wants to buy a mito I've got one in my back garden I do have the key but theres no papers! Twisted Evil

Hi

Don't let it worry you. Get back on the bike and ride it.

The gearbox shouldn't that that bad. OK, they are not the best gearbox in the world but nowhere near the worst. Check the oil level (the Mito has a dip stick for gearbox oil level I think), and the clutch adjustment. Also check that the gearchange linkage wasn't slightly bent by the first drop.

Please get back on the Mito.........

All the best

Keith

She's ending it back to D&k to shout at them because of all the stuff that also conveniently forgot to do such as fit her a high beam bulb Rolling Eyes

I'm getting scared now, it's so close to bike time for me I'm just waiting for the damage costs to start pouring in (damage to both me and the bike) :S

Keep your chin up Helen!

I went to look at a CBR last weekend with my dad and Jimmykins. It was a complete mess (like the fairing was fibreglass and that was hanging off too), all the engine casings were mangled so badly they'd never have come off etc etc. The guy selling it was a complete nob (excuse language, but he was) and didn't believe I could possibly have a bike licence or know anything about bikes.

Being proud (it runs in the family) I though "Right, I'm going to show this gimp that I can ride a bike". So I wheeled it off the drive, easy. Put the stand down to get on. Got on and

wheeeeeeeeeeeeee

Over I went. The stand was another thing that was broken, and hadn't gone all the way down. So at least it was your own bike you dropped!

Get the mito sorted, gearbox sorted out etc, and get back on. Things happen in threes, you've had yours so you're invincible now! Very Happy

I've just spoke to helen and her dads getting the police involved because D&K passed its MOT but it has no highbeam bulb fitted plus the fact she's slightly annoyed that the gearbox is a bit knackered they hadn't done the sidestand conversion and some other stuff which I can't remember, I'm sure she'll explain later!

Hi

Probably not the police. Doubt they will care. Trading Standards might well though.

Is it worth having someone have a look over it for any other faults? I will wander up if you want, although I doubt my opinion would be taken seriously by trading standards I might well spot something else that makes it worth pointing out to a mechanic

All the best

Keith

Hmm, trading standards are next on the list. Well, I have made a list of all the things I have found that are wrong, and they are only the major ones obvious to the 'lay man'.

They include a data tag (which I paid for Evil or Very Mad ) which was not fitted, side stand conversion ( ok so not a necessity, but I just know that one day I would forget it flings up automatically and drop it again! Oh well, at least I wouldn't be on it that time Embarassed )
The high beam bulb which shaun mentioned earlier which is not even fitted. The temperature gauge doesn't work so how am I to know when the engine is warm enough to run. The oil light doesn't want to go off even though it is full to the brim with the stuff and finally the clutch/gearbox which apparently you need Linford legs to get into second, and a lot of faffing around to find neutral Grrr! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

What I would like to know is how the heck did it pass an MOT?! It has three for this year alone, March, June and the one they did for me Confused Exclamation

I really could do with having someone who knows the 'ins and outs' of these bikes to take a look at it, the only person I know who could has gone on holiday for a week. Rolling Eyes
Rang the AA in the hopes that they could check it over but they conveniently don't do bikes. So if you want to take a look at it Keith you are more than welcome to, it certainly would be an advantage to have more ammo to throw at them when the time comes no matter the source of the information since it can always be double checked by a third party if they dispute it!

On the plus side, DK (who I intend to fight on this as best I can) will have to play this by the book now, the police are coming round to see me later for a statement then we are off to Shauns back yard to check it out (he has advanced warning to hide anything incriminating Laughing )

Wow, I can go on huh?! Guess I needed to vent, I will keep you all posted on my progress, all I will say in closing is don't BUY SECOND HAND FROM DK! Avoid the nightmare I am having at the moment.

When my Planet was knocked over, I didn't notice at first but the gear shifter was bent in so that it caught on the sidestand. It made it very difficult to get into 1st and second.

Hope you get on the road somehow soon! Smile

I wish it was that, but the second time it went over was the last time I got on it! The first time it went over the other way so I doubt that's the problem Crying or Very sad , but then again, I am no mechanic so I really couldn't say. Worth a gander though! Wink

You need to get someone clever like Keith to look at it.

D&K need sorting out! It's not fair. I really hope it hasn't put you off riding the little lovely. GOOD LUCK!

The nightmare continues Rolling Eyes Just been to DK with Grrr face firmly in place, and after long chats with 3 different people it looks as though a decent result may come of this whole incident! Shocked

They have collected the bike rom Shauns back garden now (poor guy, he was getting used to seeing two monsters in there Laughing ) and I have two options before me, either I get my money back or I can have one of the only other 125's they have in stock which is small enough for me, the XV125 thing! Heck, it's brand new if I go for it and it's a little more practical to learn on! Neutral

Doesn't look half as good as the Mito did but I do have the option of selling it on again I suppose, and if I go for a full motorcycle license a Ninja has always been my love in the bike world (providing it can be lowered enough Mad )

DK are going to call me back some time today (or so they say) after they have checked out the Mito, I will see what they say then eh?! It's awful this waiting for wheels!

No offence, but do you think that it would it really be wise to buy a *new* bike? Wink

I'd say take the money back and scour the private ads for a cheap CG or possibly an older NSR to learn on - insurance will be cheaper, and you won't damage it as much if you drop it. You also won't lose as much money when the time comes to sell it on.

Hi

To be honest I would 2nd Tins idea

The XV is not going to be the most popular bike around, so resale value will not be great. To find out how bad ring a dealer up and ask them how much they would give you in trade in against a large bike for a 1 year old XV125.

Also worth having a word with Dans motorcycles in Stone. They tend to have plenty of 125's in.

If you can touch the ground on the Mito then you should be OK for most road 125 bikes. Think the RS is about the same size and the NSR a touch smaller.

All the best

Keith
