NSR R de-restricted will do 0-60 in 5-6 seconds. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

i think 5-6 seconds is a little optimistic, the RS should do that but the NSR will do it in around 6-7

Plain NSR derestricted will be 6-7

You can fiddle with the gears a bit and drop maybe a second off that if you feel the need to. However that will lose some top speed.

The NSR actually accelerates a bit quicker than an RS....

Hi

On a standing 1/4 the RS is quicker than the NSR and takes over 15 seconds to get to mid 80's mph. While around 7 seconds to 60 might be believeable, I am afraid I don't think that you are going to get much better

People might claim more, but how many have got accurate timing equipment to check, and an accurate way to measure the speed?

Must get round to making one of these desktop acceleration machines. Take the rpm (inductive pickup on the HT lead, and then record the signal with a tape recorder) and record it. Then using that along with gearing you can work out performance without too many inaccuracies

All the best

Hi

Forgot to say, the only magazine 0-60 time I have seen for a 125 was for the Mito which claimed 7 seconds, and with a 7 speed box it could keep fairly low gearing for acceleration without landing up with a low top speed.

All the best

True mine cained RS's off the mark (with original bore).
I'll get some video footage.

since theres not a lot in it, it comes down to other factors like the rider and the condition of the bike, most RS's have been thrashed to buggery, are in a poor state of repair, or have just generally not been looked after.
One on one, both say year 2000 model, fully de-restricted, no other mods, both engines fully run in with 1000 miles on the clock and in perfect condition, both sharing rider of same weight and skill.
keeping all the factors equal the RS should edge it. same on top end.

I always thought that the RS125 is Supposed to have more bottom and midrange power compared to a de-restricted NSR, as well as more top end! i've seen NSR's quoted at about 22bhp r/w, where as the RS is more like 27bhp.
BTW, does anybody know how i can go back to being called plain old (stevo) again? as ive not been on here for like 8months, and cant log on as my old name cos its still registered.

You cant if someone else has registered it.

And the 125 are all very similar, the RS has a bit more on the top end, the NSR accelerates a bit quicker. At the end of the day they are 125 2 strokes race reps.

You can use the lost password function. It will ask you if you have forgotten your password when you try and login. You'll need to have access to the email address you used to register then.

A new 2003 NSR restricted version will have 15 bhp (11Kw) at least in Norway that is. Does anyone know if there has been any changes from the models from 99-2003 except for looks?

as taken from NSR125.com:

Top speed of around 75mph? 0-60 about 11 seconds? Most likely a stock bike, restrictors in the exhaust, intake housing, and a smaller front sprocket.
Top speed of around 100mph? 0-60 about 5 seconds? Most likely a de-restricted bike, apart from the front sprocket
Top speed of around 110Mph? 0-60 about 6 seconds? Most likely a de-restricted bike, including a proper size front sprocket.

apart from the proper sized front sprocket i remember these times did match my old NSR.

a new UK nsr *should* be 14.7bhp, but Honda are lazy and haven't changed it yet. instead a cityfly has a better power/weight ratio from stock.

BOLLOCKS is all i can say

The NSR has pretty much the best power/weight ratio you can get on a bike that size, trust me Twisted Evil

And.... thy guy who said to get to mid 80's takes 15secs? If your NSR takes that long you need it checked over mate!!! 15secs i'd be near the ton!!!!

(Maybe im just a better rider or use more revs in each gear, who knows???)

Anyways, it bout 5-6 secs 0-60 derestricted Twisted Evil

Mine takes forever to reach the mid 80's but i blame things like lower gearing and loss of aero dymanics.

But its a 125 and still getting to 80ish in 15 odd seconds is still a good feat for a 125.

you average car takes 10 seconds to get to 60.
and bikes especially small capacity motorbikes don't have tht extra umph to get them to the higher speeds.

the NSR is best left to small windy roads where it comes into its own.

Far from it. NSR weighs 132kg dry (claimed, faired model), so add say 10kg for petrol and oil, and a 60kg rider and that is 202kg. It has (from the recent one dynoed) 24hp at the rear wheel. That is 0.1188bhp/kg. The Aprilia RS125 (15.25 seconds standing 1/4 from the road tests, managing mid 80's in that time) weighs 115kg (again claimed dry weight) and has 28.5hp at the rear wheel. So with the same weight added for fuel and rider that is 0.154bhp/kg. So if a bike with around a 30% better power to weight ratio takes a true 15.25 seconds to reach mid 80's mph you can guess how quick the NSR is.

By comparison the 1200 Bandit weighs 214kg dry, so with the same rider and fuel that is 284kg and 100hp at the rear wheel. That works out at 0.352 bhp/kg, so 3 times the power to weigh ratio. Even a GPZ500S weighing 169kg with 45hp at the rear wheel (what Charlottes on managed on a dyno) manages 0.1883bhp/kg.

Oh, and taking a car example. A Maserati Ghibli manages to put out 286hp, and weighs 1360kg (including half a tak of fuel). Call that 1420kg with the driver. That is a power to weight ratio of 0.2014, around 70% better than the NSR. Despite having 2 driving wheels to provide better traction that only manages to get to 60 in 5.6 seconds, and takes 13.6 seconds to get to 100 (at which point its far superior aerodynamics over a bike are definatly going to be helping).

From a quick look the closest car I can find on power to weight ratio to the NSR is an Alfa 156 2L, and that manages to get to 60 in 8.1 seconds (OK, it is FWD so has a small traction disadvantage).

No, you might be indicating more that 80, but you will not be doing that speed. Also, how are you measuring the time? If you are just counting then expect it to be a long way out

All the best
