 |

So I was recently the proud owner of a nail in my back tyre! Usually I would just go and have the tire replaced, but as it only had about 1000 miles on the tire from new I didn't really want to shell out another £120-130 on a new one.
So I got my mechanic to have a look at it and as it was only a small hole left pretty much smack bang in the middle of the tire he was happy to plug it for me as I kinda needed the bike back on the road in a hurry.
The only stipulation I got from him when I got it back was to "Take it Easy"
So what I wanted to know was what experience have you guys had in the past with plugged tires? Good or bad, and any limitations you may have come across.
Looking around on the net the opinion seems to be very mixed.
If it makes any difference I believe he used a mushroom plug as opposed to the sticky rope type.
Thanks. |

Mushroom put in from the inside of the tyre?
Ride as normal.
I've seen someone with one of those figure of 8 plugs in ride the tyre all the way down to the canvas. There was no rubber all the way round the middle of the tyre except for the plug. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I've had a mushroom type plug in my rear for over 8,000 miles and have exceeded 100mph (on a race track) with it in.
In fact I think all my rears have been plugged, there's so much crap on the roads, esp. in the areas I filter. ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |

Alright cool thanks, I guess the best thing to do is just ride it as normal and see how it feels.
Cheers. |

I wouldn't worry about it.....just ride as hard on it as you are comfortable to. I know of people that have down trackdays on plugged tyres though. ____________________ My Flickr |

Yeah no worries, I checked the air pressures yesterday and it all seems fine so I'm not going to worry about it too much. ____________________ Current: Suzuki DRZ400sm (07) https://fbc.spruz.com
