Sitting at the traffic lights the bike jerked forward. Expecting it to be the clutch cable snapping i fiddled around with it, but then found even when i used my hand to push the lever bit on the engine, it still didnt engage the clutch at all. I was still able to get home by baging the gears, short shifting etc.

So somethings gone wrong inside the engine. I dont know what though.

get clutch cover off and have a look about.

make sure your engine has been left over night before taking it of though. if its been run and you take it off it will leak oil everywhere.

What bike? If it has the release mechanism on the clutch cover the clutch puller might have snapped.

Sorry for the noob questions, I have done an oil and filter change but the clutch is new to me. cheers.

Take the casing off, clutch side obvs lol, and there will be bolts holdin it all together (clutch assy) they are quite easy to undo just watch the springs under them. take the clutch apart but remember how it was assembled.

You'll need a torque wrench for doing everything up again to the right 'tightnesses' and possibly longer than normal sockets for taking the crank case/clutch cover apart (depends how deep the bolts are recessed).

It is a good idea to put new seals/o-rings in as the current ones will have compressed, and won't make a good seal when it's all put back together again. Give them a smearing of engine oil before you fit them.

If you can, it's well worth getting hold of a service manual or Haynes book for your bike. Thumbs Up

I opened it up, replaced the clutch plates and springs, oil filter and oil, yet it still doesnt work.

What else could it be? Something deep and hard to get at i guess.

To clarify, I have changed the clutch, yet when engaged in first gear with the clutch pulled in, it cant roll forward.

With the engine on or off? Cant help but think its got something to do with the clutch arm, does it push a rod or is it one where it pushes the clutch basket/pressure plate via thrust bearing?

engine off, i think what you said might be right, but im not sure which one it is. when i pulled the clutch lever in and out with the clutch cover off, it slightly pushed something in the centre of the clutch basket. but it didnt return, or move that much.

Dont know if that helps at all. Razz

It sounds like you've worn something to do with the clutch arm itself with all your wheelie abuse, if its a push rod then it might be bent, if its a thrust bearing then maybe it needs replacing? Is there a honda dealer you can visit locally to have a word with one of the mechanics? People do that all the time with us, they ask my mentor and helps them out all the time.
