Just wondering before I go book it in with the garage, but I seem to get a mid-high pitched screech whenever I pull away a bit sharpish. It only happens up to about 10 mph.

I'm not really sure what I'm listening for, but I thought it might be the notorious hyosung cam chain tensioner issue, but the garage who sold it to me said it had been fixed under warranty.

Any ideas would be welcome, I'm not going to diagnose / fix it myself, but a bit of knowledge before I get to the garage would be useful.

Cheers in advance...

Not familiar with Hyoyo's.

Screechs are usually water pump bearings

Seconded, my TDM does it. Thumbs Up I thought it was the front wheel bearings to start with.

I'm not sure what bike you have, but my old zxr750 used to do that sometimes. It was because the alternator belt wasnt tight enough and was slipping. But, as your bike is prob newer and thus doesn't have one, it is probably the clutch slipping. Thumbs Up

The GPX 750 I've got (basically the one before the ZXR) has the same screech what I think is the alternator belt!

Screech as the revs rise, coming from the bottom left side, right?

How did you fix it?

clutch plates Thumbs Up

if you can be bothered pull the clutch apart and lightly scuff the metal plates with emery paper.

then lightly oil the friction plates as you re-assemble in the correct order.
it should be fine Thumbs Up

Agreed with the above.
You will hear the cam chain at idle alot worse than when revved up to speed under load.
My old GT125 has the camchain tensioners replaced, thats more a ticking clicking noise.
so yea, voting for the clutch plates Thumbs Up

+ about 4 for clutch plates.
R6 clutch does it/did it up to the same sort of speeds pulling away.. i put it to the plates being brand new (i soaked them first). it did it less as the miles and clutch abuse racked up.

yep thats the one. Basically, I loosened the alternator off and stuck a big screwdriver under the alternator housing. Applied pressure until it was fairly tight and then tighten up the bolts. After that it was fine.

I had to replace the belt twice though and that is a different kettle of fish entirely.

let me know how you get on. PM me if you need any more help Thumbs Up

Thanks to all, clutch sounds likely then.

I was hoping to have a definitive answer from the mechanic by now, unfortunately I had to book the car in instead - noticed the MOT was 3 months out of date :S

Only 2 weeks til payday, then the bike can go in...

That's more of a high pitched - ultra sonic screech.
