Perhaps as a method of removing the knowledge that death is nothing, which would be very bad for socially collaborating animals such as ourselves.
I'm not offering any conclusion either way, I just don't know, but I don't think that the point that NDE's being true is more believable, more logical, than the brain creating them from nothing, holds much water. |

I'm not directly relating it to 'survival', more social control. If everybody who had a NDE stated that they saw nothing, felt nothing, remembered nothing, then all the evidence points to death being a state of nothing.
Having nothing as the ultimate end is bad for society, people like to think that this is not 'it', that the struggle in this life will ultimately be replaced with a better existance in the next. That motivates people, keeps them together when the temptation is to just fuck everything and do what you want as what you do here makes no differenc to one's ultimate end.
You have dempostrated this yourself from the rejuvination you express on concluding that there is, definitely, an afterlife.
The likelihood, or even possibility that there is an afterlife is a very positive influence in soceity. Some feel that we are programmed to tend toward this belief instinctively. I don't think that it's to unrealistic to think that the brain in certain circumtances chucks out stuff which supports this instinct.
Again, I'm not certain either way, I just don't think it's as clear cut as you believe. |
