PostPosted: 21:53 - 20 Oct 2009    Post subject: Looking to buy soon. Some 50cc noise advice? Reply with quote

Hi guys, I turn 16 in February and I'm looking to get a 50cc 'bike', namely a Yamaha TZR 50. I know it's not going to fool anyone and it will always be a 50cc, I have no problem with that, the noise just annoys me! Is there any way to make it sound a bit more meaty? I'd be willing to put in the effort and money to help with the noise issue. Like I say, I don't expect it to sound like a proper bike, just a bit better than it does. I tried Google and got loads of crap and a few pwople saying to replace the exhaust, if I was to replace the exhaust, what should I be looking at?

Thanks in advance!

It's a two stroke, it'll always sound the same. You can change the exhaust for one which (claim to) give marginal power gains and they'll still sound the same.

Power isn't a problem, it is literally the crap sound it makes that bothers me Laughing exhaust I think is the first thing to get changed.

I was thinking of putting some wadding inside the fairings but this could cause all sorts of heat issues I suppose.

No point buying a new exhuast. It's the fact that you're moped is a 2 stroke and 50cc. No matter what exhuast you put on, it will still sound like it does only deeper.

You don't want to put a big exhuast on it. The pipe won't fit onto the engine, the only way is to weld it, which isn't a good thing to do. Plus, if you did, lets be honest, it would look and sound pretty ridiculous. I know someone who stuck a mini exhuast on his ped, he regrets it now because it's sounds so stupid tugging away, but he can't take it off effectively without damaging it because it was welded.

You're better off either waiting it out and buying a 125 when you hit 17.

Hi

Why make a 2 stroke sound like a slower 4 stroke?

All the best

You should love the sound and the smell of a 2 stroke. It will never sound deeper doesn`t matter what exhaust is it.If you want a 4 stroke sound get a 4 stroke,or wait untill 17 and get a nsr125 ,they don`t sound like lawnmowers, well mine didn`t

I can't really wait 'til I'm 17, I'd be looking for a car by this time. I'm also hoping the bike will help lower my insurance on the car.

Making it sound that bit deeper will help in my opinion. The wadding would help with the high pitched drilling noise and popping but like I said, heat may be an issue.

I had a RS50 and I changed 3 exhausts 1 big bore barrel(thought it might sound deeper) airfilter and it still did sound like a small 2 stroke.

Theoutsider; did it help at all? Or was it a totally pointless excersize?

It may sound crazy but what about using a universal-fit car back box? Replace the muffler with something like this... https://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=ROAD&pcode=TRIB126? Pretty sure I'd need to use a reducer to get it on the pipe and either epoxy putty or welding to seal it.

It'd still sound like a two stroke, the only difference is it'd be running quite badly if you put that on as the end can. Laughing

Just ride it as it is. It's a two stroke and it will always sound like that. Stop worrying about how cool you look on a 50cc.

Most two-stroke 50's are pretty quiet, you won't hear it while you're riding.

I'd just leave it and get a better bike next year.

Mate it was totally pointless.I ended up selling the bike as it was to unreliable, and as fair as I kno the tzr and the rs have pretty much the same engine(if i remember) so get the bike and leave it as stock as possible. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I figure; I need transportation. Anyone gives me crap for riding a 50cc-sounding motorbike can say what they like... while they catch the bus or ride their scooters. I'll look cooler Cool

Stock bike it is. The options are:
Honda NSR 50
Honda NR 50
Yamaha TZR 50
MBK X-Power
Unfortunately they're difficult to find at a good price, so RS50 if I must!

My folks weren't to pleased about the idea but after getting an earful over having to pick me up at 10/11pm every night from my girlfriend's house (a good trek away) I started returning a simple "wouldn't happen if I had a bike" - now I think they're warming to the idea Rolling Eyes

As for the Senda, I'm looking for something with a sports look rather than a scrambler style although I must admit that's a nice looking bike Smile

Hmmm... I overlooked these because I REALLY don't like the new one. Just checked out the old one and THAT is going on the list!!!

I had an RS50 with a standard can. It was quite loud, I used ear plugs as it was annoying. But in the end I got to like the sound of it. You can make it louder by putting an open air filter and a performance exhaust on it. I have a 4 stroke 125 now its much quieter than my RS was. I was like you, I wanted my RS to sound beefy but then it is a 2 stroke and theres nothing you can do about it.

If you just want something as transport until your 17 and can drive a car, just get a shitty twist and go.
