hi, im 17 and have my A2 test in a week,
atm i have a xt125 and want to upgrade to a bigger bike but obv need it restrited to 33bhp
i have got a budget of no more than £2500 for the bike. ive looked at an er-5 and drz400. the drz seems a good choice, does anybody know about this bike. whats it like to ride? does it still perform well when restriced? top speed / accel? and is it any good for driving on motorway half hour at a time. the cheapest insurance quote for the bike i have found is £630, which is the most i can afford to pay out rly
any other reccomeneded bikes?
any help is appreciated |

SM is the future
The claimed 40hp is very optimistic, in reality a stock S/SM will be putting out around 32-33 at the wheel.
Mine is standard apart from a full akra exhaust and put out 36.72 on a dynojet dyno (known to be a bit dodgey are them dyno's)
To be fair, you should be fine not restricting one. One restricted to '33hp' apparently do around 85mph flat out, a full power one will hit 95-100 (i mean chin on tank and flat out for ages).
As for motorway, unless your brave them don't go above around 80, you WILL need to change your pants It is very uncomfortable at speed for a prolonged period (ie - more than a few blasts between the twisties). If i end up going on the motorway then i find myself sitting behind a car in a 'semi-crouched' position doing around 80-85.
Oh yeah, i have an 07 SM. If your close, it could be up for sale ____________________ It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, then it's bloody hilarious!!! |
