After selling my last bike (thundercat 600) over 2 years ago in order to pay for a deposit on a flat etc etc and other boring stuff. I have been off bikes for just under 2 years.

Anyways, I thought it was time to return to the fold and on friday I purchased myself a very nice 1999 ZX9R in red.

I was pretty apprehensive about getting back onto a bike after this time only really hadden ridden a CBR125 and that would have been upto september 2008. So I handed over the monies to the man and then had the daunting task of riding the ZX9...

Well I don't know what was wrong with me, I got on... fired it up, clutch in, clicked into first and it all came back to me like some sort of highlander powering up moment and off I went.

So far have done a couple of hundred miles on the thing in town, on the lanes and dual carriage way and it's like I have never been off.

If anyones interested, pics of the bike can follow... but I am sure you have seen a red ZX9R before

Don't ask me how I know.

Nice! Looks very tidy.

Mate of mine has one and he loves it. Does everything on it including touring.

Excellent choice

Yeah a fair amount of consideration went into choosing the right bike etc. This is a lot of bike for the money.

And there was no mix up in the pictures, I took the viper can off and replaced it with the stock 9R exhaust & Re-fitted the pillion grab rails and pegs.

How is it weird? But yes I would be using it in anti social hours and I am not a massive fan of the sound of race cans (unless it's a litre V twin) It still sounds grunty with the standard can and I think it runs better really.

Oh and it needs an MOT soon...

Put tape over it, has worked for me everytime I MOT a bike.

And you got the wrong model ninja.

I jest, I used to have 2 ZX6R J1's first one was the right and the other was silver. Loved them bikes.

Insurance wise, I am 25 have 4 years no-claims and am paying £275 fully comp with MCE. Thumbs Up

(my no claims would have expired in September of this year!)

So far I am really enjoying the bike - it's got a lot of go but is actually quite placid if your gentle with it and short shift etc... It's quite nice not having to work the gearbox to accelerate. after about 50mph I stick it in 6th and "a twist of the throttle alters the speed as required"

yeah, well as practical as I can be with a litre sports bike.

It has handlebar raisers, scottoiler & heated grips (all came with the bike) and I will probably be doing a fair few miles on it which is why i bought such a low milage example (7500 miles) so I can keep it for a while.

What sort of miles you looking at doing? I've got the 929 doing pretty much 13k miles per year in all weather. Mostly commuting but the odd sunday blast
