Problem with Honda Vision

Hi,
OK, I know a Honda Vision is a lowly machine but hey, we all got to start somewhere .... anyway ....
I have a problem with starting the moped. Initialy there was an intermittent spark at the plug, but now there isn't one at all. I've checked the wiring as much as I can, but am settling on the cdi as the problem. I have used the manual to try and check the resistances across the various contacts as stated, but there is no change - they all show infinite resistance on the multimeter.
I have contacted my local dealer and they are quoting £75 for a new cdi! (I only paid £150 for the moped). I have found cheaper ones on ebay etc., but don't want to spend too much on an estimated guess.
OK, so my questions ... How interchangeable are CDIs ? There is one on ebay for £10 but it says it is for a Honda Vision 80 - would this fit ? I've asked the seller but they don't know.
Is there any better way of checking the CDI ? - I don't suppose anyone out there has a Vision sitting in the garage that I could 'borrow' the CDI from to test it. I'd be willing to give a deposit etc.
Any other hints / tips would be appreciated.

The Moped is a NE50MFF - 1988, the CDI has GK8 CF488 on the side of the terminal connector.

With a bike that old I would be more inclined to think that a dodgy ignition or HT coil could be the problem. Have you tested the resistance on the HT primary & secondary coils? Bypass the ignition to see if that makes a difference. If neither test yields anything then check the pick up coil before you go for the expensive CDI fix. As for borrowing a CDI, if they have it in stock, most breakers will take the part back if it's not the solution to your problem.
