Lost my paper counterpart...

Yet another newbie question here, did a bit of Googling and searched the Direct.gov website but I just got really confused.

I've misplaced the paper part of my provisional. I usually keep it with my CBT cert in a plastic wallet in my bike jacket, but it's not there anymore.

I'm resigned to the fact that it's never going to turn up again, so I'm going to get a new one. Does this mean I have to send my photocard in/stop riding until I get a new one?

You have to ring the DVLA and pay £19 for a complete new licence you don't have to carry you counterpart with you, leave it at home. The DVLA service is actually pretty good should have a new licence in a couple of weeks. You do not need to stop riding. The DVLA will ask you send send your old licence back, don't bother. Either cut it up or keep it in you wallet and keep your new stuff safe at home. I keep my old one with me incase I need ID and keep my other at home.
