Just heard on the news, 7 dead, 20 wounded in Americas biggest Military Compound, Fort Hood. A Solider stationed walked in with a pistol and shot dead blindly. He was shot dead by guards and 2 other people have been apprehended as suspects.

Want to know why these people do these things, why take someone else's family with you. Thumbs Down

My best mate is from the states and her nephew is based in Fort Hood, as far as we know he is okay!!

As for why people do it... I don't know, but mental illness is usually behind these sort of things!

A lot of people do it to go for the Highscore.
I think the Virginia tech kid still has the highscore, way more than this guy, but I guess when you have max-police cheat turned on, you're going to get gunned down a lot faster.

Computer games, rock music, violent films, or something along those lines is most likely to be blamed. Never get to know what really these shootings cos the attackers nearly always kill themselves when they're running out of ammo, or get someone shoots them.

Kids going and shooting kids at schools is done because it's the in thing to do if you're a rebellious teenager with a grudge against the school.

Religious fundamentalism and the perverse ideology often contained therein are, in my opinion, a severe form of mental illness.

What a load crap is in this thread. Here are some details known so far about the shooting:

Possible harassment, stress of being deployed and the fact he was listening to the horrific stories of those soldiers returning from the middle east excludes him from having a breakdown then???

I restate my original post, that mental illness is usually behind these things, even the most sane of people can snap and have a psychotic break under extreme circumstances!

Must have been pretty good pay then!

Being an American Muslim involved in this war, he's going to receive crap all the time, with the comments and feelings around that base i think i'd have gone loopy.

He's alive !!!!!!

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8347501.stm

So, he was upset becuase he may have been going to Iraq...

As a soldier, surely you would expect this, it's a bit like going to work at McDonalds, then complaining when you have to cook food.

Also, he has been complaining about 'racial harrasment', well, so do lot's of people, and most don't go on a shooting spree.

Does Texas still have the death penalty?

There must be easier ways of getting out of the army because you getting shit, and will be posted somewhere to support a war you don't agree with.

I think he was a mental health professional, so I am sure he would know the get out methods, so the army can let go of people.

I hope he didnt see shooting the place up as is only way.

I think he may have been inspired by the afghan or iraqi policeman trainee, who shot 5 or so soliders who were training him.

What's with this " Discuss ?" crap.

It isn't a school for kiddies. There is no homework or marking system.

Put your thoughts or opinions up, but don't put the patronising " Discuss" crap at the end.

I'm not just getting at the OP as I have noticed it a lot more recently and is a pet hate of mine.

As for the subject, when you look at all the evidence of his character, he leeps out a mile, but that is hind site and we all have degrees in that.

Could've fooled me.

Discuss is the same as saying "any thoughts" why get so uptight about it people always say it, there is freedom to say what you like on here, it isn't your job to moderate peoples posts.

Interestingly the US forces have a death penalty, and a death row apparently, irrespective of what state they are in.

Killing him would be an easy way out for him, he was clearly prepared for that anyway, keeping him alive i.e. death row would be better, 50 or so long years with nothing to do but think about it.

Sorry for offending you but the point of the thread was get people talking into the matter... Confused
I'm not that bothered on how I phrase asking them to discuss it.

You seem like a really angry person. Neutral
