This year I rode to Split via Cannes and Monaco (I know i'll post the ride report soon enough). I covered about 3-3.5k miles in 16 days.

Next summer one of my mates promises he's coming along having missed out on my two previous trips.

Anyway we have 16/17days and need somewhere to visit.

The problem is that i've done most of Eastern Europe (at least as far i would be able to get on this holiday), I've seen a lot of France, I can't stand Italy and have been on numorous holidays to Spain. I used to have an Austrian girlfriend so stayed there for almost a year, and i've seen a lot of Germany (its quite expensive).

My question is, where should I go next year to ride? I'm looking for around 3,000 miles and am interested in riding nice roads and partying, sightseeing is an afterthought.

Any ideas?

Scandinavia would be the obvious european area you haven't visited.
'Partying' I suspect you'll have to stick to the bigger towns, but told some have pretty good night life. Some good roads I'm told, but harsh speed limits in many cases.

Of course, there's always more nice roads to visit. Heard good things about souther Germany and was impressed by the Swiss Alps myself.

I would second Scandinavia. I spent some time there this year and learned some of the languages and ended up wishing quite a lot while I was there that I had a bike to tour the place with. It can be very expensive mind you but it is stunningly beautiful.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

I did think about taking the Northern Route to Estonia, so that would be riding through Denmark, Sweden, then on the way back through Poland and Germany - I just cant seem to work out the logistics i.e how many days i'd be travelling and how much time i'd have in Tallinn.

My trip this year worked out well time wise with 4 days in the south of France and 5 days in Croatia, the rest of the time was spend traveling and cmaping at various locations on the way home.

Northern Europe? , they are rather harsh on fast riding and you need a mortgage to buy more than a few beers in those places.

Yeah thats whats kind of putting me off the northern loop to the baltic

I could go to croatia again as i have friends there but that would be have been a few years in a row now.

I thought about hungry and timing it to the Balanton MotoGP that could be cool. I've been to lake balanton before and bitten loads. I love budapest, but again i've been a few times.

I know my mate wants to go on the autobahn so he can pin the thottle back on his R1 - i haven't told him there is usually road works every so many miles and car braking suddenly.

It would be nice to ride Route Napoleon again or maybe Grossknocker (never done that one)

What a pain this all is. Rolling Eyes

As a wild card.

What about Russia? , ok its a ball ache getting the visa but a tourist visa is easy enough to get, the roads around Sochi, Rostov-En-Danu and Krasnodar are excellent absolute sports bike country Think N85 but they last so much longer and the petrol is 34p a litre. The beer also 30p a litre.... (accomodation is expensive though you can approach people and camp in their gardens).

Don't be tempted by the vodka though, I'm still recovering from that stuff.

Though its trouble to get to, in that North you can take the 24 hour ferry from Odessa, or you can take the 24 hour ferry from Trabzon as Turkey has some excellent roads but exceptionally expensive petrol.

Scandinavia is well worth it for the roads and scenery. Food is at least twice our prices, booze even more so but most campsites I stayed in were quite reasonable and petrol is about the same price as ours.

The speed limits are about the same, speed cameras are weight activated hence don't catch bikes and we rarely saw police and had no trouble in this respect.

I would also suggest Serbia and Bosnia (or other Balkan countries I haven't been to.) These are not much further than Croatia, cheaper, friendly people, have amazing scenery in the South and some cool cities. The roads aren't great quality but you can't have everything.
