https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/6562409/Queens-Speech-pay-to-have-your-DNA-removed-from-database.html

Precis proposals are a foot to allow innocent people to remove their DNA from the police databases......(which in reality means they will say they remove it but will really keep it anyway and say they have removed it governments NEVER relininquish power unless you are Taiwanese).

Good eh? , except the proposals have a £200 fee attached to it.

Is it me or does this stink of a tax on innocence? Confused

Really .... you couldn't make this up Rolling Eyes

Having your DNA on record when found innocent of a single crime bites, however you shouldn't have to pay to get it removed from the database, that is as you rightly point out 'a tax on the innocent', a fairer system would be for the DNA to be removed atomatically after say 5 years as not everyone found innocent of a crime always is, that way the police then have the option to compare the DNA on other crimes in that time frame if they have reasonable doubt about your innocence in the original matter, but no crime within five years for a single suspected offence should lead to removal and for repeat offenders ten years as the average repeat offender does seem to retire from crime at some point.
