Hi,

Been looking at these for my next car. Seems like you can get a hell of a lot of car for your money (in my case about £2k-£2.5k).

Anything to watch for with them? Anyone owned one?

Cheers.

A friend had the S60R which turned out to be a bit of a lemon considering he had a V70R before it which was completely reliable. Don't know much about the diesels they sound quite nice being an inline 5. If you can get a more modern one the earlier ones are 163bhp whereas the later ones are 185bhp. Thumbs Up nice cars I'd love a T5. Thumbs Up

Went to Le Mans in a 11 year old T5 Bought for £700, absolute bargin. Everything worked (baring the heated seat) Nice and comfy cold aircon and pretty quick. Even considering it was loaded up with 4 big blokes camping gear and a shit load of beer.

They're slow though, had a 2001 T5 and quite frankly it was pathetic, the FWD didn't help. Yeah it's ok for cruising but it's nothing special, and the fuel consumption is ridiculous, barely any better than an Evo or a WRX, max I could get crusing was 32mpg, usually averaged about 19-24 over a full tank.

The D5 is a much better engine, decent power and economy, they can also be remapped reliably to over 200hp and fuel economy actually increases. The only problem is the usual Volvo maintenance, things break with regularity and even aftermarket replacements are hugely expensive, throttle position sensors, air mass sensors, exhaust sensors all over £100 for pattern, quadruple for genuine. Normal wear and tear components like suspension are also abnormally high in price. The only good thing about the Volvo V70/S60 is the interior, comfy as hell, oh and they handle like a barge if you try to drive it, yeah they float along in a straight line so great for long lazy drives but don't expect too much of it otherwise.
