Rear ended

I suppose it had to happen eventually, my first physical run in with a car in anger.

Basically I was approaching a roundabout in Birkenshaw on outskirts of Huddersfield and there was a big queue of traffic, as I do most evenings I filtered down the side of it and as the traffic begins to move a gap usually opens up that I can squeeze into.

Got near the the front and a van pulls away leaving a nice big gap between him and a Audi A2 behind him, I indicate to pull into the gap at which point the audi decides to close it up, as i'm already half way in I carry on. The van then enters the r'bout and I stop ready to turn right. Just as I begin to set off the audi rams into the back of me and shoots off striaght across the r'about whilst I turn right and pull over.

I reckon him ramming me was deliberate, especially given the way he tried to stop me getting infront of him. I didn't get any registration numbers and no one else stopped so i'm presuming they didn't see it or more likely don't care.

No damage to the bike although when he hit I heard a sound of crunching plastic so i'm hoping at the very least he needs a new number plate.

Really am seething about this, I wasn't holding him up and would have been out of his way in seconds so for him to ram me is just totally fucking idiotic. I travel the same way home every night so hopefully I'll run into him again by which time he may find himself missing a wing mirror or having a huge dent in his drivers door or both.

Bastards.

The only thing you can do is to ask the council for CCTV tapes, and report it to the police within 24hours (else you can get into trouble, Sadie was rammed a few years ago and didn't report it and got into some sort of trouble, makes me wonder where she is these days).

And the driver will be done for leaving the scene of an accident...

Else it is chalk it up to experience and don't seeth in anger as it doesn't do any good.

Just to stress what Itchy just said. Report the incident to the police. If he gets home and finds he needs a new bumper (at over a grand I'd imagine), he might just decide to try and claim off your insurance.

If you've already reported the matter to the police, you can't get into trouble for failure to stop and report

I've phoned the police and been told that nothing will come of it but If i'd like to go to the station and make a report then thats upto me.

A similar thing happened to me.

I reported it to the police but I got the piss taken out of me, was called a liar and was even threatened by the stupid bitch behind the counter (if she was anywhere else but a police station I probably would've given her a slap at the very least).

I wouldn't waste my time with reporting things to the police. Once you go in there you can't do anything against the person if you see them on the road again.

But the satisfaction of pulling up next to him, tapping on the window to advise him that you have reported the fact he ran into the back of you and then drove off.
Have a typed up letter with a CRN on it ready to stick under the wiper should he simply ignore you.

To know that he will then be sat there at home, crapping in his pants every time there is a knock at his door......

Should be more than enough.

At least this way you can't end up as being the one in court for road rage.....

What a complete tosser. I got back ended on my second bike - a C90 Cub. Not deliberate, and the guy stopped and was insured etc. But I've never quite been able to relax at roundabouts since then.

same thing happeded to a m8 on her first bike. only a bit harder. wrote off the bike (it was nice too, a derbi i think). some idiot tried to 'squeze past' at considerable speed

Interestingly my only incident of a rear ending was whilst I was sat in traffic; a woman in an X5 bumped into the back of me. It was very low speed, the rear shock absorbed the impact and I just sort of turned my head to see what that bump was. She immediately pulled over, being very apologetic, admitted blame and handed me her insurance details.
The bike was absolutely fine, but it changed my opinion of women in 4x4s - clearly not all of them are snobs!

To the OP - what kind of bike have you got? And why didn't you turn round and catch the car up? Surely in traffic it'd be easy enough to filter up to them and take their reg plate down before passing the info to the police?

I got a little tap up the bum the other day. Was quite funny to see how scared the driver got (and I'm not a big lass) at the thought he might have hurt me or damaged the bike. He didn't do either so I told him not to worry about it. Maybe he'll be more careful behind a bike next time.

I was rear ended on Thursday night on my FZS 600 Fazer which I had just purchased that very morning. Stationary in traffic and a merc ran right into the back of me. Bike went forwards, I went upwards police, ambulance etc.

Just bruised and battered and waiting to see what's become of the bike (drove it home so hoping it's ok). Fairing smasked and indicators gone on RHS but she's atough old bird so keeping my fingers crossed.

Merc admitted full liability ot police and had a letter confirming today - my future now rests in the hands of Carol nash... I was pissed at teh time as my back brake was on and I had an orange reflective vest as well FFS!
