Worrying rattle

I was riding to the gf's yesterday and when i pulled up at the traffic lights my bike started to make a horrible sound, it sounded like someone had put a escort van diesel engine in my bike, i could also hear the bike engine sounding normal and was idling fine.

Any ideas i no its a bit of a longshot what with my usless description.

Oh and it also hasnt done it since but its obviously a bit worrying.


It was only momentary because when i revved the engine a little bit it stopped until the revs died down and started again then stopped

Any suggestion welcome

Perhaps the engine mounting screws are loose? Or the fuel tank mounts are loose and something is resonating when the engine revs at a particular 'frequency'. Would be worth checking all nuts bolts and fastners are as tight as they need to be. Check if anything is dangling about and bashing against something else. Also, if it happened when you were slowing down, it might be that the chain is too tight and is putting strain on the front sprocket. Recently happened to me and I would feel clunking around my feet when I slowed down with or without the clutch in. Slackened the chain off a bit and it was ok.

This happened to one of my previous bikes a while back, turned out to be the protective cover over the exhaust had come loose.

its an srad probably cam chain tensioner its very common on them

Cam chain tensioner is a possibility, but its not very common as said above. Srads dont tend to eat them anywhere near as other similar bikes.

Are you missing your fuel tank rubber mounts? Mine got lost and it did something similar as the frame vibrated on the tank.

Iv heard it might be the CCT. Mine has never has never had tank rubbers well it did have until I left the bike at a local bike mechanics and it came back with none but that was like over a year ago and it has never made this noise.

What you need are some earplugs.

Or, if it's a carbed bike, has one of the balance rubber caps fallen off. This makes the bike sound like a VW beetle at certain revs.
