I recently purchased, for not a lot of money, a 1978 Superdream 250. Yes, I know they're heavy, old and rather numb, but I have a sense of humour and at my time of life I need a little bit of a challenge to keep me going. On the plus side, it's relatively low-tech and with so many built over the years, spares are still fairly plentiful.
I purchased said machine from a young chap, an apprentice at a local Peugeot dealership, who had just enough knowledge to make him dangerous. Some of his work was OK, some wasn't so good so I decided early on that I should start at one end and check everything to the other end. Today, I got to the carburettors, and withe float chambers removed, noticed that one of the rubber bungs that fits on the end of the slow jet housing was missing. Now, I don't know how the engine was running before laddo started in 12 months ago, and what I was wondering, with all the collective knowledge on this forum, is, what is the function of these bungs, and how important are they to the smooth running of the engine? Any enlightenment on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

This:

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-CX500-Carburetor-Passage-Plugs-GL500-CX-GL-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2a089823d1QQitemZ180532814801QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

from the US eBay site.

The carbs are pretty much the same as CX500s, so the bungs should fit. I could not find a part number on the fiche.

I have never seen the bungs supplied with any carb kits.

Absolutely superb Bru, many thanks for that, I bought them off the U.S. site. It does mention various possible performance issues there, so although I was quite confident of fabricating a replacement, the "proper" part is obviously preferable, Thanks again, great find.
