It gets worse....the USA took it one step too far:

Carson Williams from Mason, Ohio did this in 2005....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmgf60CI_ks

Christmas lights sequenced to Wizards Of Winter by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Since then, it's been copied and copied everywhere as youtube has the videos.

I say it's a waste of Electricity. Maybe in parts of the USA that gets lots of snow it looks pretty.

Over here it looks dull and boring.

People putting large amounts of lights and other crap on their houses is daft, but if people want to spend lots of money on electricity then that's up them.

What is stupid and wrong is the way all town centre have lots of lights that are on 24/7 from around the start of december. Rolling Eyes

The house across the road from me is really over the top. The whole house is covered plus loads of illuminated objects all over the front garden. Its a eye sore but each to their own.

Most of it is a waste. Although I have to say certain types done tastefully look good. Like the golden looking incandescent bulbs round 1 tree.

Although most of it is a waste of electricity.

Patterns and lit Santas etc look tacky, but I quite like tasteful strings of light, e.g., around the front door or wrapped around a tree in the garden. Even then, only from Xmas eve onwards, not earlier.

Very succinctly put 1930 Areal Clapping

A lot of the outdoor stuff is blue these days, I actually quite like the blue ... but did nearly drop off the other evening ... just the way things turned out/angles of the dangles, I nearly (slight exaggeration there, it wasn't THAT close - more of a thinker than a stinker) had a head on with pig car that was overtaking on my side of the road ... basically its flashing blue lights blended with the blue lights of the house ... sure it had to be just the right (wrong) circumstances to be a problem ... but it got me thinking ... Thinking

We light our cities and the light from them destroys our vision of the night sky.
Our earthly imitation of nature kills that which it is supposed to glorify. Give me a clear sky over a billion neon bulbs any-day.

My brother is a massice fan of outside xmas lights. He done up my parents so much so they where embarassed as people where driving to the house to see it. It was apparently for my little sister but not really as he loves christmas and likes to show off. He has been allowed to do it on my parents new house which is smaller this year but not to the extent he was as most of it would be stolen as its in a badish area. I wouldnt do it, I have lights on my banister, tree and round the conservatory door and thats the height of lights for me I dont need to pay for that. And I think it loks tacky covering a house. There area a few I seen on youtube that look half decent.

There is a house in Fulford, York that puts clear decorations up. They do look more tasteful being clear and not multicolored.

As for global warming......

Anyone seen the new lights on the M1 J27-24, A1 J38, M62 J29-30 and M62 J29-25?

Apart from the A1, these new lights run 600w lamps each. The old lights were 400w or 180w on the A1.

Soon you'll be able to grow weed by the motorway Laughing

One mile of these new motorway lights on a newly widened dual four lane motorway, uses more energy in one hour than 4 average UK households over the whole day.

That's just motorways. Similar wastage happens everywhere else in the name of safety.

Obviously us normal members of public are the scapegoat in the energy efficiency greenhouse gas argument.

The big question is how does a bloke who who claims sickness benefits cos he has a bad back 363 days of the year manage to put these up then take them down again. This is one of the more tasteful arrangements I have seen this year.
