yes.
love it
one of the most fascinating things i find is stars.
makes me think how small and insignificant I am compared to the rest of the world. i to can go a few miles into Shepshed and see many millions of stars that you cannot see near big cities like London, Leicester & Nottingham.

I am fortunate ennough to beable to ride about 4mile for my house and come to a totally open patch of field with a gate way, that I can lay back on the bike and relax looking at the stars with Grimsby below me.

Tonight I went up there with a close friend in his car, and just laid on the bonnet talking about life in general and finally able to relax in a long time. It felt so good to get things off my chest without be judged or feeling like I was going to upset someone.

Do you feel like this when in total harmony looking up at the abyis?

Take a pair of binoculars next time. You'll see thousands more stars. An awe inspring view.

Yes I like to look at the stars! Its nice to be in the country on a clear night, sadly it normally bloody cold too!

I also like a clear blue sky, its like gazing into an all encompassing blue infinity....

Reps if you name the bright star to the south. Follows a new moon and is close to Orion.

I love it, But being in london there are very few places the light pollution allows you to see.

Would be very cool to have a place where you could do that, light a spliff and chill...

I had to ride out to practically Aylesbury to get any darkness...

Damn london, all the more reason for me to move to Canada. OH Canada!

I've just purchased my 4th telescope just for the task of looking at the stars.
All I need to do now is find a nice dark site to be able to enjoy them to their full potential.
Pity is where I live is both heavily light polluted and good ol regular pollution which makes for shit seeing.

Still summer is just about here so i will have my chance. Nothing better then sitting out under the star with a cold beer on a warm night Smile

Oh and I know it's not the real thing but look up a piece of software called stellarium. It's free and will show you what stars etc you will see at night. It's not only entertaining but educational as well.

It's pretty amazing how many shooting stars you see if you just spend sometime looking.
Im lucky enough to live out of the way a bit and when i get home at night its looks awesome.

A couple of weekends back I was on a rally down by Cirencester, the place itself was a few miles into the countryside, about three in the morning as everyone was winding down and going to bed I sat there looking up at Orion and the Great Bear I think it was, it's been years since I'd seen them so clearly, must have sat there for a good forty minutes just looking up...Fantastic sight... Thumbs Up

Heard about this on the radio recently, I've added it to the list of places I'd like to visit :-

The only shower I saw was the rain shower. It chucked it down.

Ditto Manchester. Bag of shit orange sky all around. A mate of mine used to take a telescope and tripod out to Denton golf course/Audenshaw rezzer before they built the M60 through it, and get a decent-ish view, tho it didn't compare to being in the middle of nowhere in Scotland in terms of number of visible stars.

yes I get very "earthed" when have a chance of peace and quiet and time to reflect...it's good for the soul!!

My fave pastime is sleeping in large barn at mates parties occasionally in the straw stacks and looking up out the sides at the stars!! I sleep soooo well on those rare nights!

At about 5 - 6am on sunday morning when I was on my way to the meet I was almost at the end of the A272 when I looked up and saw the most spectacular sight. It was so full of majesty it was distracting to my road awareness so I knew I had to stop.

So I pulled over, looked up and saw thousands and thousands of pretty stars illuminating a massive vally which is a breathtaking view by day, and now I know also by night.

I was lucky that I managed to ride out of the rain storm to find a clear sky with absolutely no light pollution. It's small moments like those that make me want to do so much more touring on my 125.

One of my little moments of bliss.

Always loved looking at the stars since i was a kid. I like this time of the year as i get to walk the dogs while its dark, i live in the country and on a clear night the sky's full.
Nice and relaxing and puts things in perspective.

Didnt really interest me.... until I was visiting my Canadian girlfriend ... and she took me to some cabin near a lake, somewhere near Jasper (f*k knows where ... but it was in the middle of nowhere and not even a house closer than 50 miles away.. ie: zero light pollution)

Middle of summer ... by the lake shore... nice bottle of red.
Laying on a rug ... she reaches across, nuzzling my neck and starts to......... sorry, the memorys got the better of me.. i digress. Embarassed

Anyway - staring into the sky I saw for the first time (for me):
1) The 'milky' swirl of the Milky Way .... I know it sounds obvious, but you really could see so many stars that it looked like a milky brush stroke across the sky.
and
2) Satellites tracking across the sky ... loads of them... I didnt believe her at first and was convinced they were really slow (lol ??) planes.

Later on that weekend I got chased by a moose with calf and almost got killed ... but thats a story for another day children.
Sleep tight and watch the stars.

The absolute best bestest place I've been to watch the stars, was in the middle of the desert in central Australia...OMG!! It was incredible.

I laid out on a sun lounger for aaaaages, just staring at the sight above me...it was amazing, better than anything I've seen anywhere else in the world, ever.

There was no light pollution at all. Nothing.

It should be on the list of things to do before you die. It's right up there with walking along the top of the Great Wall of China, exploring Angkor Wat, and a helicopter ride over Mt Cook and landing on a glacier... Cool

I live on the outskirts of town, so just a ten minute walk away is a few fields with no light pollution whatsoever, me and my mates make a habit of going up there every week or 2 just to unwind, occasionally have a toke, look at the stars and just chat about life etc etc.

Some of the most important decisions of my life have been made up in that field. Laughing

Cheers

I love it. When I was a child my dad and I would sit in the back garden at night and watch metoer showers and look out for falling stars. I had a star chart from readers digest that was a wheel you set to the date and it showed what star was what. Wish I still had that as I do like gazing at the stars still. Would love a cool teleccope. My other half is the same we hang out the bathroom sky light and look at stars.
