Anybody watching the news right now.

Massive floods in the lake district, major rescue operation involving all the services.

Sky has been covering it live, showing the RNLI, the helicopters and the rescues and the carnage in the area.

BBC, nothing, just some crap about Europe. (For over an hour)

This is why Northerners and Scott's hate the southern bias in the media and causes deep distrust and dislike of the south. If these floods were in Kent, the BBC would be covering it in massive detail.

I've been flicking channels for the last hour, I can not honestly believe the BBC.

I'd say this thread says more about your northern chip on your shoulder than it does about the BBC. Maybe the BBC's news crews aren't on site yet? Maybe they had a bulletin in an earlier hour? They do show different news throughout the day.

Plus, who actually lives in the lake district? Nobody I know! Wink

No Sky has been covering it live for over an hour, the situation is happening now.

Its funny enough to say about northern chip, but imagine your town was under 14 foot of water and the BBC didn't mention it.

It's not reported by the BBC because they know that no one cares that it's raining oop norf. Thumbs Up

The southerners hate the northerners because the northerners want everything to be biased in their favor and if something happens oop norf but isn't the main story on the news then they get all offended and start crying about it, this causes deep distrust and dislike of the north.

Probably looking at the mouth of the river Cocker at a totally wild guess.

I've seen it rain heavier up here and I've seen more roads closed by flooding with less fuss made over it.

Certain rivers have burst over in places that don't usually. Almost entirely down to the environment agency a) Building flood defenses for modern housing schemes built on natural flood planes and b) Preventing farmers from dredging out drainage gullies.

They always whinge about the rain in the Lake district. Where did they suppose the lakes came from? Maybe some of the artificially inflated house prices caused by Southern wankers* moving up here will drop now. With any luck, some of said wankers will also move away.

*That's not necessarily saying all Southerners are wankers, just the ones we get moving up here certainly are.

EDIT: A lot of people are also driving like pussies. One of the lasses at work was worried she wouldn't get home today because of the flooding on the roads. She drives a toyota land cruiser for fuck sake.

Remember the flooding in Lewes (pop. 16,500) 2006 BBC coverage day in day out.

Gloucestershire flooding 2007, approx. 250,000 people literally an inch from evacuation, third world stuff.

The BBC moved to Newbury after 2 days as the river Kennet "might break it's banks" it didn't, but they didn't go back to Gloucestershire where people were on bowser water for a month.

If it ain't in the home counties, it doesn't exist!

It does seem odd that it was only last week I was in Cockermouth and the surrounding area. the land looked really water logged then with the rivers and streams near the top of the banks.

Sad news though about the Police Officer who has died, his birthday tomorrow too. Died keeping idiots away from harming themselves.
