Been roped into looking at a scooter for an upcoming 16 year old.
IIRC it's a Honda, not that should make much difference and it's a 2 stroke (Doh! 4 stroke 50cc would be silly). The lad will only be having it for a year anyhow before selling on and moving up.

It's so long since I've looked at the scooter side of bikes I need some refreshers.

Now I'm assuming it's been ragged. It is the only way to get anywhere on a 50cc after all, full throttle or nothing. So if it starts ok what other telltale signs to be wary off? (I will check if it's cold before starting - been caught out with that before).

One thing, can you tell if the rollers have any flat edges without taking it apart?

I will check the forks for any leaks and any excessive play in the headstock (I hate messing with forks).

Any other pointers appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation Thumbs Up

Just look over it as it were any other bike.

Suspention, wheels, brakes ect ect.

Bodywork would be a give-away of what kind of rider he is.

i would also have a little test ride.

Thumbs Up

Only way to test the rollers for flat spots without looking at them is riding the scooter. Normally on a scooter the speed increases at a constant rate. If the rollers are terribly flat, this won't happen, so you will get a poor speed increase, and then all of a sudden, the scooter will accelerate.

I wouldn't worry too much about this though, rollers are cheap and easy to change.

As said, just do normal checks you would do on a bike but bear in mind that it's probably been owned by someone with no mechanical knowledge whatsoever.

I would be half tempted to start talking complete horseshit.

Red or yellow powerbands?

Dont be silly its a pink powerband. Laughing Pink Powerbands are exclusively for the gays. Having a Pink Powerband fitted and not being gay could leave you open to a civil prosecution brought by the Gay Standards Committee. Fines can range from a sensual whipping, to being forced to grow a bushy moustache and wear a leather cap. Power delivery with Pink Powerbands is usually smooth, but mincey.

rollers are very annoying but if start and goes with out any nasty noise normally there fine there so basic
