The Game - Neil Strauss
Can't be arsed to type a full description, basically a guy becomes part of a group of PUA's (pick-up artists) and he ends up becoming one of the best, it's very interesting, though is more about his story than describing in details any of the techniques used, but it's a good starter.
This will lead you to read up on things like the "Mystery Method" and other PUA's like Tyler Durden, David DeAngelo etc.
Whether it works or not, I cannot tell you, as mine was purely an intellectual interest (I found out about it when reading through a copy of FHM and came across an article about PUA's) though I've tried some of the stuff out just to make conversation during an otherwise dull night in the pub which lead to a heated arguement with two women about whether or not going to a stripclub is considered cheating

Best thing to remember, is that not all girls are the same. They all experience life differently to the next, emotions are also dissimilar.
So a book wouldn't really be that useful, unless you intend on knocking her over the head with it, and slinging the girl over your shoulder to get her to go home with you.
Probably worked in the caveman days, but things have moved on a little since then.

If being himself was the solution then I'm sure he;d be knee-deep in clunge already.
I think it's the fact that we are essentially animals that means that we have to be or do something slightly out of the norm in order to stand out amongst a sea of potential mates.
If you are currently in a relationship, cast your mind back to when you first met your current partner - in that first day/ those first few dates, did you act completely normal? Did you do absolutely nothing to try to impress them? That would include taking them to some fancy restaurant - unless you go to fancy resturants every single night of the week - because in doing so you are projecting an image of luxury, financial stability and pleasure. Now if you did do that then, and now a normal evening in is pie and chips in front of the telly, then you were not being yourself at that first meeting/ first few dates, and as such, are a hypocrite and delusional.
The easy way is to just have lots of money and/or good looks, otherwise you're gonna have to work at it

You're quickly becoming one of my favourite posters on the forum, with your undeniable logic.
EDIT: It seems a common theme is to utterly NOT be yourself, and this includes looks.
I pulled dressed as the Saw Doll, make-up and everything.
Shit works.

Things I know about Steppen: He's short, struggles with women and wants a GS500
Just kidding! Women are fickle creatures, what floats one woman's boat may be a complete turn off to others and, as Ghostrider stated, you don't want to be projecting an image that you can't sustain.
If you watch the film 'Hitch', it has one thing in common with these books on how to attract women, you're being told to be something other than you actually are. It may even work in the short term but as soon as you go back to being yourself (which will happen) she'll realise you're not the smooth operator you came across as.
If there is one thing I have learnt in my 36 years on earth it is that the one time you are guaranteed not to pull is when you are trying to pull. If I look back on the times I've been succesful, it was when I had given up and decided to be on my own, I met my first serious GF at a mate's parents BBQ for the bank staff they worked with, she was with her abusing BF who got spectacularly drunk and passed out, I wasn't even thinking about pulling as all the women were there with their partners, so I was probably more relaxed and natural than when trying. The current missus I met after I broke up with my ex-wife, I was sworn off women for life and she caught me by surprise.
What I would suggest is to go out with mates, have a good laugh and don't try to pull, it'll happen, as long as you don't try to make it happen.
If you are going to try to chat up a woman though, the best thing you can do is to make it look like you're not trying to chat up women. Walk up to a group of women, they will immediately expect a cheesy line, ask one of them the time in a polite way, they'll all be expecting a punch line. When she tells you the time, say 'Thanks' and walk away. That way they've all seen you, if they don't fancy you, you haven't embarrassed yourself in any way, if they do, you haven't made an arse of yourself with an attempted pull and they might talk to you later, make sure your watch is hidden though
Cheers

You know, thinking about this cross-dressing theme, I remember when me and some mates went out to a club we all used to go to every week.
Me and my mates were looking sharp dressed up in our finest threads, busting moves on the dancefloor, trying damn hard to pull some hotties.
None of us were successful, none of us that is apart from my mate who decided to come dressed in a tartan skirt with red tights and rocker boots on with a jamaican flag coloured string vest and some kind of garmet around his wrists. I swear this guy barely hd a chance to walk 5 meters before some other girl would walk up to him and start talking with him - he came away with about 8 numbers that night.
We all thought he was a prat when he came out of his house looking like that and was going to embarress us, but I guess he was older and wiser....

actually I agree with what your saying in essence, but I never found being myself a problem, when I got with my gf we went out for a cheap pub meal on our first date which to be fair we still do about once a month, on the second date she came to mine and we sat and watched a film together, Its true what grim said the harder you look the worse it is women seem to be able to detect desperate and the longer and harder you look the more desperate you become, I worked in clubs for for about 7 years and feigned disinterest on a nightly basis, to be honest I was usually too busy but I pulled more women without trying than I ever did when I was. ____________________ Never invite a vampire into your house you silly boy! |

Those books use the trial and error way of approaching women. It's a CBT practice that has been adapted to pulling. You basically turn it into an experiment where you exhaust all avenues that lead to getting nothing and document them, then eventually you will start finding techinques that work for you. The more you try the better you get. Evedntually you would have your own personal chicktionary. I think it's just a game of numbers, you try different techniques on 10 women and one technique works on 1, then fine tune that with another 10 women and so on etc etc.
I read parts from an ebook and it just all seemed like a lot of effort.
