massive great big sweaty dogs c*ck
doing 45ish up a hill. get to the brow ready to bank into a short left hander - pow!!
one second later I'm watching the sparks off my left bar end ten feet ahead of me
I'm on my back, then my side, then my front, then my back again.
soon as i'm stopped (on the wrong side of the road) i'm on my feet and lifting my once shiny fazer onto the grass verge.
get home (interesting with one grip pointing straight up at the sky) persuade the missus that "don't worry, love, it really was nothing", then hop in the cage and off to work
five hours later that pain in my wrist ain't easing off, finish work 20 mins early, down to scunny general. Now I'm the owner of a knuckle to elbow plaster cast. Apparently I've broken something that I can't even pronounce.
Mister Frank Thomas more than proved he was worth the money. Lots of holes - not a drop of blood. Next stop ebay for jacket, trousers, gloves and lid.
Question - how am i supposed to change mirrors / indicators / pegs / etc with one bloody hand??????? ____________________ TRX850, TDM900, ST1300, CB650SC Nighthawk, ragtop Saab, gym membership, messy divorce, large chested blonde fiance

Not really sure what happened.....?
As long as whatever you broke doesn't rhyme with 'scaphoid', you'll hopefully heal in 6 weeks!
With an injury like that, you're not supposed to be on the road. It's your duty to keep yourself off the road according to the DVLA rules. |

I broke one of those pointless lumpy things near the wrist
(pointless but very painful)
I'm now back in the cage although first, third and fifth gear are a challenge (and the hand brake is a different matter altogether)
I know the rules about arm / hand breaks etc and insurance. However the DVLA don't have to report to my boss.............
black ice was the problem - loads of spills around here this morning. When i rolled into A and E 9 hours afeter the spill they told me i'd missed all the queues!!
Good news is i've already bagged a replacement jacket and i'm watching indicators and a lhs mirror on fleabay.

...and if you download the form from the DVLA, it becomes very transparent, that it is your responsibility; not the doctor's responsibility - to inform the DVLA.
Your doctor is not a policeman, nor a custodian. He won't tell the DVLA unless your cognitive function is impaired, and you aren't able to tell the DVLA yourself.....
This is a high bar: the DVLA expect a lot of drivers, huh?!
In most cases, they may send a questionnaire to your doctor to ask whether he thinks there are grounds for you not to drive, and ask for your consent for this to be completed.
Equally, in your car/bike insurance, it states very unequivocally, that if your health or condition changes, you need to inform your insurere as soon as possible.
Frankly, I don't know anyone who ever has or does (what an invitation for a premium to go for instance, if a rider has for example, a one week 'flu' with joint pains....). |

Your doctor is not a policeman, the DVLA have
adopted the guidance issued by the General Medical Council (GMC). This GMC guidance says:
1. DVLA is legally responsible for deciding if a person is medically unfit todrive. They need to know when driving licence holders have a condition, which may now, or in the future, affect their safety as a driver.
2. Therefore, where patients have such conditions, you should:
Make sure that the patients understand that the condition or any presented medication may impair their ability to drive. If a patient is incapable of understanding this advice, for example because of dementia, you should inform the DVLA immediately Explain to patients that they have a legal duty to inform the DVLA about the condition.
3. If the patients refuse to accept the diagnosis or the effect of the condition on their ability to drive, you can suggest that the patients seek a second opinion, and make appropriate arrangements for the patients to do so. You should advise patients not to drive until the second opinion has been obtained.
4. If patients continue to drive when they are not fit to do so, you should make every reasonable effort to persuade them to stop. This may include telling their next of kin. If they agree, you may do so.
5. If you do not manage to persuade patients to stop driving, or you are given or find evidence that a patient is continuing to drive contrary to advice, you should disclose relevant medical information immediately, in confidence, to the medical advisor at the DVLA.
Before giving information to the DVLA you should try to inform the patient of your decision to do so. Once the DVLA has been informed, you should also write to the patient to confirm that a disclosure has been made. The DVLA cannot compel the driver to notify them, however it is endorsable offense.
---------
So your is a policeman to the extent that if you're not meant to be driving they tell you that you're not allowed to drive, they tell you that you need tell the DVLA and if you continue to drive then they will tell the DVLA for you.
If you notify the DVLA of any medical condition then the first thing they do is contact your GP and/or consultant(s), what they say depends on what happens next.
You have to tell insurance companies about DVLA notifiable medical conditions, you don't have to tell them about all health changes cos that wouldn't be practical.
If in any doubt the best thing to do is to ask your doctor if you're allowed to drive/ride.

Lol ~!
That's what I was thinking.
I can't imagine anyone stooping so low, as to ask their friends to help them with the toilet paper!
Is this something people do in Harrow or something? |

I remember when I had the latest operation on my leg (same should apply lol) my surgeon said that I am fit/safe to drive as long as I can do an emergency stop ok.
Must be annoying having a cast on your arm though- I sprained both my wrists at the same time and I couldnt do bugger all! Found it difficult to even turn a light on
Hope it heals up well and you get the bike sorted! |

crash bungs sorted - offside & nearside swapped, nearside sawed off straight and redressed - still plenty of gap from engine bits - FOC - they may be the biggest crash bungs on earth but wow they saved an absolute fortune in damage
handlebar ordered & paid for, mirrors ordered and paid for, gearbox cover sanded down and ready for heat resistant paint (£9 - yet to order), Frank Thomas gear cleaned and broken bits fixed - holes haven't damaged water proof layer thank the good lord. Rear indicator araldited together quite nicely so may not even need replacing. Total cost so far; £30 including postage off fleabay.
no scratches at all on paint so job almost done
just the bloody arm to fix - keep searching fleabay for one of those but no joy yet ____________________ TRX850, TDM900, ST1300, CB650SC Nighthawk, ragtop Saab, gym membership, messy divorce, large chested blonde fiance

Definitely worth getting crash bungs fitted- most of them look very discrete as well. When my other half dropped his bike, there was hardly any damage to the fairing at all lol |
