Hiya, newbie says hello!

I've been lurking on here for a couple of weeks, thought i should introduce myself so *ahem* Hello!

Did my CBT two weeks ago, got a Piaggio Liberty 125 scoot last week, and have been bimbling around for the past week to try and build up some road experience.

Thought I'd say; was terrified first few times out, constantly thought I was doing something wrong (may well have been, but survived it at least..) However, today was the first time I'd been out and actually began enjoying being on the bike and feeling confident about being able to get to where I wanted to (and get back again - always handy). It was excellent to finally wipe away that "oh crap, I've wasted a grand on something I'm too scared to enjoy" feeling!

I know I'm just a scooter "'ped boi"? (Not sure it fits at 25 but hey...) But I've really appreciated reading the experience others have posted, and lurked with intent to learn!
I don't know if I'll get round to doing the full bike test in the next year - I saw this as the only quick, easy (hah, not as much as I thought) way of being able to commute the 12miles to my new job which I start on Monday, without relying on sodding buses...

Anyway, that's me, total noob to the road and the biking world, and hoping to continue quietly lurking and learning (perhaps even posting!)

Since I'm posting though, thought I might ask: I'm looking into rain repellants and anti-fog products for my visor and at the mo I'm thinking about Salclear TT and TT-X which was reviewed by webbikeworld. Does anyone have any experience with these products? Thumbs-ups, stay-aways? I know plenty use household cleaners to do similiar things, but I'm a bit nervous of putting something not designed for polycarbonate on my first visor

Firstly, hello and welcome to the forums, secondly, don't worry about riding a scoot, everyone has to start somewhere.

As to anti fog stuff, theres plenty out there from pinlock visor inserts to fog city, and rain repellents i used this stuff called rain x but it only really works properly when your going above 40 mph. On the plus side if you do knacker your visor, i'm sure you could always buy another.

Thanks mooserx, rereading my post it makes it sound like I don't like my scooter, but I do! I tried a CG at the CBT and struggled with gears,: I was much happier with the scoot!

I thought that about my visor at first, but when I looked at it I realised I had no clue as to how it came out - the ends are enclosed, and it didn't come with instructions on how to remove! It's an Arashi Milo Flip. I got it because it fit, it was a flipfront (great for glasses) and it was cheap!

I'm thinking I'll pop down to my local Hein Gericke and see if they know how to get it out - i'll be more confident about trying stuff on it if so I didn't buy it there, but I'm hoping they'll take pity and help me out!

Seriously though, glad you have started to enjoy riding at last. The confidence will build up pretty quickly but be extra careful that you don't get to far ahead of yourself as the roads get worse. Slowly slowly catchy monkey and all that

Hi Wizzzard, thanks, and yeah, no worries, I'm still plenty paranoid
I'm quite happy to ride slowly and carefully, but now at least I can start enjoying the ride as well!

I never even thought of riding until this new job came up, so I don't have the dreams of "More Speed! More Power!"

Hey santa,

You'll probably find that most flip front lids are enclosed where the visor joins the lid, they will be a way to get it off but it might just be trial and error, did you not consider a full face lid, i wear glasses and ot found them a problem.

Welcome to the forums.

For the visor ask where you got it from, they will tell you, and if you go in with the helmet they will likely show you as well

I use Mr Sheen for anti rain. Works well. Causes the rain to beed up on the visor. Tilt you head, it all runs off.

Not so good in really fine rain / fog but most times it is fine. Cheaper than rain X as well, first can of Mr Sheen since 2007.

I did try some full-face helmets, but the best fit I found in the shop were flipfronts (altho the v best fit - a Nolan - was outta my price range alas!) and I liked not having to take my glasses off to put them on. I read somewhere that its possible to do so with a full face - angle of putting-on-head, but I couldn't figure it out Yeah it looks a bit silly if you walk around with it flipped up, but I can live with that lol, and I've popped into the shops like that and got no more than funny looks...

I didn't notice that part of the design of flipfronts when I was looking at them (that the visor ends are enclosed), so my bad... Think I will give ghostbikes a call, it's a pity I can't pop in but the shop's 30 miles away...

I've heard that about Mr Sheen, probably try it when I've worn away the 'new car smell' of my helmet!

For now I've ordered Salclear TT and TT-X for anti-fog inside and rain repellant on outside. I'll post a review when I've destruction tested them in the lovely weather we've been having

Speaking of which, I went out for a ride tonight, and the temp had just plummeted - I only stayed out for 15 mins as I was losing feeling in my fingers and knees! Gonna have to wrap up a whole lot more methinks..

Good choice starting on a scoot, bikes can be a bit daunting at first without chucking gears into the equation aswell.
