Hi,

Changed the discs and pads in my car the other day for Mintex ones and now the brake pedal is quite long (only bites quite far down its travel). Once it bites it's rock hard and the brakes stop the car no problems.

Tried bleeding through with fresh fluid, no difference.

I've done 40 miles now and the pedal does seem to be getting better, but I just don't understand why it would be so long with brand new discs and pads.

It was fine before.

Anyone got any suggestions?

did you clean the goo off the discs before you fitted them? If not, I reckon you could have contaminated the pads... That might produce odd effects while braking...?

Remove the reservoir cap before pushing the pistons back?
Did you push the pistons back slowly?

Did you do the rear brakes, and if so is there some bizantine manual handbrake adjustment to be done?

Well, I just bled the system again and seem to have a much firmer pedal.

new problem. Just had new tyres put on today; under braking it seems to pull slightly to the right. What the hell can cause that? I checked both callipers were free (they are).

Could it be tyre pressures? I'll check them tommorrow.

Hi

Tyre pressures are probably the most likely cause of that. Although possibly someone has made a mess of mounting the wheel and it has the locating stud pushing it out slightly (some wheels do not have space for the mounting stud between all the normal studd holes).

All the best

Keith
