My company, in their infinite wisdom, have planned our company christmas do at a hotel in the centre of London, at WC2N 5HX (Multi-map broken).

This hotel has no parking, the nearest carpark, at SW1A 2BN, has a 24 hour rate of £40 and, although I can claim that and the fuel money back, we still have to find it in the first place and we are skint until payday.

The train plus tube costs for two people from Southampton to there and back again overnight are even more expensive than fuel and parking, so I am a bit stuck.

My little bro lives in maidenhead, so I am investigating parking there and training it in but that also looks pricey. I would skip the do but I will get charged for the hotel room.

Any suggestions? Like free parking somewhere in London and then tube it? Help!

Cheers

If it were me, I would be driving to greater London, finding a tube station to park near in the suburbs (a nice looking one) and then use the tube.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

Grim, get yourself on the megatrain.

Far easier, cheap, and you don't have to worry about drinking and driving the next day.

I used to do this and found parking near Putney teacher training college safe and only a 10 min walk to the tube.

Could you / a work mate not put all parking expenses on a credit card? Then claim the interest if the company doesn't reimburse you before the payment due date (but you should get well before anyway)?

Hah! I've never worked for a company that could get me my expenses back before any credit card bill.

Our company will however give you a cash advance. Can they not do this for you, grim?

We've decided to cough for the parking charge, it's no cheaper to park and train/tube than to just drive all teh way and pay. I'll get it back and I can *just* afford it. Fortunately, the food, drink and room is paid for Mr. Green

Cheers

Ditto that...fares from as little as £1.00 up to £8.00, off peak (which is what you will need) perfecto!

Only £13 overnight, though, but you do have to check out by 9.30am. You can also park on the road overnight, or are you insisting on a carpark?

Or you could throw the missus on the pillion seat, as bikes park free in Westminster council carparks, not on the street, though.
