Hi, yet another thread from me about some minor problem I'm afraid.
Yesterday morning I got torn a new one by the supervisor for not turning up on thursday (one of my days off) we have 8 A4 sheets detailing who is working on what days and what hours, with an 'EXTRA' line for overtime hours. It seems my name was put down by someone else for some overtime without my consent or knowledge. I got bollocked because I should have looked at the board, I argued that I shouldn't have to as I know my hours and I'll make a note of any overtime I've accepted.
this isn't the first time, this is the second thursday this has happened, and on tuesday the 22nd im working an extra 2 hours, until 8pm, which i wasn't asked if i was able to do. As it happens I had to be 20 miles away at 8pm for a family meal, so have cancelled that to keep work happy.
How do I go about fighting a diseplinary (sp?) for not turning up? Do I have any grounds to fight back? f'd in the a? ____________________ '84 TS50X, '91 TZR125, '89 CBR400RR, '91 VFR400R NC30, '98 R1

I take it that someone must be writing your name down on a overtime list....
Get the company to check the writing. Of if its verbal, then they will know who is saying you will.
TBH, While i know you know you have not offered to do overtime. If it had happened once before i would be checking the list anyway. Just in case it happens again. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

First of all, you should check at regular intervals that your rota hasn't been changed, thats just good basic practice. However, any alterations should be notified to you at the time of the change, both to make sure you are able to do the work and to confirm that you know of the change.
The person doing the disciplinary should, as part of the investigation, find out who altered your rota. that person should be brought to book first and foremost. You can be disciplined for being absent from work, even if it is over time, but if you did not know then the disciplinary can only go as far as informing you to check your rota on a daily basis, any changes should/must be communicated with you and confirmed acceptance of the change.
Sounds like someone hasn't got the balls to ask you, or the respect, and also hasn't got the balls to say to those higher than them that they haven't covered things correctly.
You do need to be flexible from time to time with your rota, but it is a two way street for both you and your employer. ____________________ Famous last words of Humpty Dumpty. " Stop pushing me "

Cheers for the advice eveyone, I went on on saturday, and the manager didn't mention it, but was definately not happy with me, she was very sharp and at times I felt quite rude, but only to me. Martay off here works with me, and noticed that this was the case, not just my imagination.
I'm working a few extra days during christmas week, but thats ok because I have nothing on. I've spoken to the supervisor, who said it's my responsibility to check the rota. I replied that it would be good manners to ask if I can do the extra, seeing as I used to be at college on the days I'm not there.
I'll ask on tuesday whether the disceplinary will be going ahead. If so I'll mention that I haven't been putting the hours in my hours line. ____________________ '84 TS50X, '91 TZR125, '89 CBR400RR, '91 VFR400R NC30, '98 R1

If I hadn't signed anything to say I'd work overtime on specific dates and times I'd tell them to get fcuked. |

As well as the other suggestions make sure you put your points across clearly.
Suggest that they update the form to include a date/time and signature of the people doing overtime.
