Bought the missus a makeover and photoshoot experience thing last Xmas, what's more I got a 2 for 1 deal so she could take someone with her, she got the works, hair, nails, make up etc.

She ended up taking her mom with her, so it was good mother/daughter bonding and to be honest the pics looked fantastic and she loved it. Needless to say, I was pleased with this victory.

Also bought her a new album from one of her favourite bands. She liked that, I told her the artwork in the booklet was really good and she should check it out, she opens up the case and out fall two tickets to see them in concert in manchester, so that was kinda 3 in one cuz it was an excuse for a weekend away.

This year it's a bird of prey flying experience - eagles, hawks, owls etc. I booked that in Cheshire, which incidentally also has one of the biggest zoos in Europe (she lives animals and thus loves going to zoos, as do I) so again that's 3 in 1.

There's probably others buti can't think right now, it's a bastard trying to be original though, especially with birthdays aswell, that's twice a year I have to be creative, I'm stone cold out ideas now though.

Got my lass a swiss army knife and a book of Beatles music arranged for the cello for her birthday (last Sunday). Got her a bicycle pump for her christmas (a 160psi rated track pump).

Given how she goes camping, plays the cello and rides a racer bike that needs the tyres pumping to 110psi, they are all good choices. She's not getting something expensive because I got her a CB500 a couple of months ago and I don't want her to feel like she has to reciprocate.

@400bandit. Get her a Mason Pearson hairbrush. One of my most sucessfull gifts to-date. They are about £40-50. Total quality piece of kit they would never buy for themself but is a very personal gift to a lass (I've yet to meet a girl who doesn't put a great deal of time and effort into their hair and these brushes are the gold standard in that regard).

If she doesn't already have one, I garauntee she will very much appreciate it, she'll know about them and will have wondered if she can justify the expense of buying one. Make sure you get the correct bristle type though, go into a shop that sells them and ask someone. It's important it has the correct blend of nylon and natural bristle for her hair type (this also shows you've been paying attention).

Lynn builds up quite a long wishlist on Amazon throughout the year so i usually get away with just giving her my credit card and letting her buy the stuff off there. She gets exactly what she wants, i dont have to stress about to what to get her. Everyones a winner

Last year got the Missus a track day in a Lambo Murcielago LP640, thought it would only be fair to have a go myself, just so she didn't have to go alone

This year bought her a car kit for her new car - not very romantic i know, but she needed one for her new car.. so that's her sorted!

if you take notice of what they pay attention to when the adverts are on its not too much trouble, i've got the choice of a tassimo coffee maker, a tefal actifry or a ipod touch, not wanting to buy kitchen type things i went for the ipod

Well I think I've come up trumps for part of her present, got her a ticket to see Wicked and a meal before (only rubbish thing is I have to buy a ticket for myself and it's not really my thing but what the hey).

With regards to spending thousands, my dad bought my mum a 3 thousand pound bracelet 2 years ago and a kitchenAid food mixer (still around 200 quid), she opened the bracelet - oh thats nice, opens the mixer and bursts into tears! haha, every year she tells him she doesn't like jewlery but loves kitchen gagets.

What I love about my parents buying presents is they come to me for opinions, me and my Dad are pretty similar, so last year he got a sweet 4x4 nitro RC car, this year he's got a sweet air rifle lamp with stock mounted battery pack ect. Another year I got her to get him a mega tool cabinet but made sure she got one with roller bearing draws (that kind of detail a woman would pay the extra for!) he loved it!

Another present I could get her that she would 1000000% love is a build a bear where you record your voice (we live nearly 100 miles apart) but I can't help but feel like a gay doing all that mushy stuff! hahaha. I nearly bought her a car CD player with a SD card slot and then remembered her telling me yonks ago to never buy her anything for her car, that was a close one.

My boyfriend has pretty much got everything he needs and has done loads of those experience days plus having a pilots license means those flight experience things are out. So for his birthday I got him a trial lesson in a gyrocopter which he said is like riding a motorbike at 2000ft. Sadly for Christmas I cant really top that so hes getting a remote control helicopter and some other little bits and pieces.

As for buying presents for girlfriends, it does depend on what type of person she is. For me however, hair stuff and bath things always go down well. Music, films and gadgets too. Underwear is a bit of a no no, I have already said that if he wants to get me some undies then get me a gift card and we will go pick them out together afterwards. Girls are a bit difficult to buy for unless they give you definate things they want!
