Hey everyone, men/women, bike/scooter owners.

I been looking around these forums for a good month or two just sitting reading through posts on a night for advice and just something to fill my time.

Been meaning to get a bike for a while, it was kind of an out of the blue decision to go and do my cbt after looking at the ridiculous prices of car insurance and needed a cheaper alternative.

Went and did my cbt on 1st of September i think it was, and the feeling I got from riding that Honda CG125 for the first time was one of the most "WOW Give me more!!!" feelings I have ever had and since decided that biking was definitely for me not only for commuting but for the sheer fun and enjoyment of it.

Finally managed to save up enough money and brought myself a absolutely beautiful conditioned Honda CG125 (51 Plate) on Monday, it looks just as new, been really well looked after by the previous female owner (who sold it as she passed her DAS), it had done 7 miles since its MOT last year and this year, need I say more...

Ridden the bike everyday since I had it learnt something new everyday about the bike and my skill (all be it minimal right now), my joy for riding is growing every single time I throw my leg over it.

Although only had it a few days, already looking to mod it and make it my own. Going to go get some new indicators and a brighter headlight if I can tomorrow. I also want to try making it look a bit different from others, it already sounds different with its meaty rawr.

Got a few questions.

1.) I know your to tell the insurance company of any modifications does this include visual modifications such as lights/paint work etc?

2.) Is there any companies that do under seat exhausts for the Honda CG, I don’t want it for the performance difference as I imagine there would not be much, but I just like the look of them and think my cg should be treated to one.

3.) I would really love to go on some tourers with you guys and some rideouts and become a member of the northern group, is there any sort of level experience you would want me to have before participating as I don’t want to be a hindrance and ruin people’s fun.

Hardly any performance parts out for the CG I'm afraid, But a free-flow air filter and re-jet is a good start, also, practice your cornering on faster country roads, it's great fun, and you learn to ride faster, just dont overestimate yourself okay buddy? =] good luck

Thanks for the reply.

And yeah my house is surrounded by county roads so my evening jollys are pretty good for learning how me and my bike handle together. Also as its winter I think it should help my learning of riding as when it comes to summer things will get a bit easier not having to worry quite so much about leaves/ice/puddles etc.

Thanks for advice, I still scare myself a bit sometimes, and always try and remind myself when I go out every journey is all part of the learning curve.

I hoping to do a little tour around the coast sometime, but think I need to get to know myself and my bike a lot better before that. Also hopefully some other members on here so can meet up and do it in convoy.

Probably best to leave a CG standard, as they're reliable and brilliant on petrol as they are. Small four strokes don't respond well to tuning attempts and it's not worth taking the risk of blowing up the motor, IMHO.

Alright cheers for advice just fancied making it look a bit different. changing stuff like the indicators should not cause any problems for my reliabilty wise should it (obviously as long as its wired well.)

if i were u i'd rather keep it as it is because that's a real good bike which will still keep running for the next 10yrs if u maintain it properly...

Don't break the speed limit, Just multiply it by 10 times and you will be fine

I changed my indicators, but that was because the original 4 were snapped off when ragged around in a field at the hands of a theif. So yes, you can, and actually I prefer my smaller ones.

If you're looking for a speed increase then you can lean down as far as you can. Sometimes gives me an extra 5MPH

Think I going to change the indicators.But leave the exhaust standard although I did not want it for any performance increase I just wanted it to look better I understand problems it can cause non the less. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, i'm liking the number of new CG125 riders.

I've been through two myself, don't follow in my tracks

I'd leave it as it to be honest, it's a cheap learner bike, no reason to make it look like what it isn't.

Be kind to it, or the RSPCCG will be on your case

Post 1996/1997? The indicators are the black plastic square ones, rather than the round silver ones.

There wouldn't be much point changing the indicators unless you don't like them.

If you do drop it, i found that the bars, footpegs and rear grab handle all take the brunt of the damage, bar maybe a scratch on the indicator.

Pointless modding a CG IMO.

Its a 2001 and has the ugly square bus sized ones.

I might just get myself another project bike then as when I cant ride I want to be able to have something to play around with in the garage and make it my own. Any recommendations?

Preferably a bike that is around 400cc, so I can use it as my next bike. I am liking the look of the Kawasaki ZXR400 but doubt there going to be many out as projects as just started looking, always had a thing for that bike.

If you have the time, patience and money, buy something like.... a zx6r...

Something that has resale value.

DONT buy an old GPZ like i did because it was cheap

money pit.

Maybe buy your next bike and get it all set up for how you want it to look... or a cool streetfighter project

Thanks, Yeah that is the plan, to get one done and setup so when I feel I am ready and confident enough in my riding to move up, I will have a lovely bike that is all custom to be perfect for me.

Looking on mcn at the different zx6r's is there any year model you think is best to use or basically any that I can afford as they are all good resale material?
