Was just wondering do any of you know any brands of kibble or dry mix that are hypo-allergenic and pure?
I already know about james wellbeloved but after looking at the ingredients his brand has quite a few things in it that my dogs dont really need. What i really want is just plain hypoallergenic kibble without all the veg, flavourings, bullshit, and multivits.

Question

We have got our Newfie on Gusto, the the breeder had recommended it as some of her other dogs had skin problems with other dry food.

He's been on it now since he was able to have solid food. He's now almost 1yr and he has never had any skin or coat problems. Infact people usually comment on how healthy his coat looks Thumbs Up . We have always used it in his meals and will usually also add a small bit of wet food or gravy.

Have a look at it for yourself as see what you think.

Link: https://www.gusto-dog-food.com/

Puppy food is £6.50 for 7.5kg
Adult food is also £6.50 for 10kg

We used Nutrochoice or Jameswellbeloved on my dog as he has always had skin problems. The nutrochoice especially worked a treat on his skin and fur, though he's back on JWB at the mo as we can only find it at Jollyes which is a bit of a dander from us.

There is Arden Grange, Burns and Wafcol.

I personally use Harringtons, its cheap and good food. And my boys suffered with none of his skin allergies since using it.

I pay £22.49 for 15kg of Harringtons from Tesco. 'Bout £15 cheaper than what I was paying for JWB.

And its the first food Ive seen my dog empty his bowl with.

another thumbs up for James Wellbeloved kibble. I use the senior for my 13 yo Jack Russell, 2 of the 3 varieties work really well for him.

Just been looking at the ultra and holistic puppy food they do at nutrochoice.
I dont suppose you could spare 5 minutes and type out exactly what ingredients are listed on the bag?does it have wheat, cereals, grains and carbs in it?additives etc?derivatives or REAL meat proteins? Thumbs Up

EDIT:
found the ingredients on the website Wink

Our Dog has been on Burns since about 6 months old - no particular reason - very well recommended on forums that we used to frequent.

He tried pedigree and it used to make him like a small child on a massive sugar rush - BOOM!!!! Proper nutter then!!!

Still on Burns now, no problems, and is designed by a vet with organic food!!!

I've been using this for my Rottweiler since he was little. I had two dogs and the other was on this. They kept swapping dishes so in the end I fed them both the same, as the old one was rather too senior for puppy grub!!

He's been absolutely fine on it and it's very reasonably priced as it's for working dogs. I have just changed to a different brand of food though as my neighbour buys it in bulk for his gundogs so I get it directly from him for £10 a 15kg bag. Sorry can't remember what it is but I'll find out as the Grottie loves it and it's the first time he seems to have really enjoyed eating his grub - bit of a picker until now.

There is a lot of talk about dog feeds just now and several people I know swear by the BARF diet. It makes sense but it's not for everyone as there is a quite a bit of re-education and then preparation until you get used to it.

I had to try quite a lot of different foods for my old Newfie as he had a dreadfully sensitive stomach and ended up being recommended Chappie (complete dried and the tinned meat) by the Vet as it was bland and easy to digest. I have never had any skin problems with any of them though, so cannot recommend anything from experience for that particular problem.

I`m putting my new pups on something similar to the BARF diet, all fresh food/meaty bones/low carbs/no additives or junk etc but i`m making it all myself instead of buying processed stuff in bags..
The kibble i get is only going to make up about 20% of each meal....the rest is going to be solid protein and a little fat from real food sources.

As much as i really want to talk about them and post pics, i m not going to.There`s too many ignorant-know-it-all-tossers on here (as i found out last time i spoke about dogs) so talking about my 4 imported rare breeds that are going to be used for breeding aswell as for pets/home security isnt something i intend to do on BCF.Not worth the hassle and bullshit i`ll get from the usual suspects and "rescue centre" morons. I'm very tempted to change the Rottie across to a BARF diet as I've had a few problems with the protein percentage in his diet. He's been quite a nutter and it's been suggested that he's been running too hot - down to 18% and it's done the trick I hope!!

I've got my eye on a new puppy for next year and the breeder is a BARF advocate so I thought I'd wait until the spring and then change him across gradually and then when/if the pup arrives they'll be on the same sort of diet. I'm very nervous that a pup gets the right diet though as it's all very critical for bone density at that age and get that wrong and the dog's screwed for life when they're the big boned breeds especially.

As with all these things I think getting the balance right is the trick and that is all rather personal to the breed and size of the dogs concerned. A bit alien and tough to start with but once you know what works it'll be straight forward.

That's actually really funny, especially when you consider the fact that Max here thought he had a pedigree cross-breed. 'Ah've got the papers n everyfink, innit'.

I work at the Thetford Jollye's, NutroChoice have stopped trading in the UK due to rising costs of ingredients and importing. Apparently the next closest one is Burns, but can ask on Tuesday what to suggest Smile

I've heard that the BARF diet is very beneficial for large breed dogs and your large puppy (it was a leonberger?) will do fantastiacaly on it.
Our Newf breeder had her dogs on a Gusto kibble and raw meat diet. And they all looked fantasic.
We just couldnt continue with that diet (the wife's a bit squeemish) for him. We just made sure we kept a close eye on what he was eating.
We also started him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements (hidden in a Dairylea Triangle Laughing ) Which should help his growing joints.

What is it with dogs and rubber cheese? Mine have all loved any 'plastic cheese' - baby bel, bavarian smoked etc.....!!

Yep, it's a Leo puppy I have my eye on!! Wink I was offered a 3 year old male the other week but I let him go to a friend as they had also just lost their Leo but theirs was just 4.5 years old when he died Crying or Very sad Mind you I've since heard that the new one is a humper and as you can imagine that's not entirely amusing - he's a very big lad!! Shocked
