Precis Specs3 cameras have been approved by the government for usage in 20mph zones....

wonder how they are going to tag the environmental aspect to it as cars going at 20mph surely are more polluting than cars at 30mph right?.

This crazy government is doing me nut in, what next? in a bid to decrease unemployment all cars must have a man waving a red flag walking ahead of it? Rolling Eyes

It's the one time where I think speeding is a real problem - 20 zones tend to mean schools, residential streets and reducing speeding in these areas can only be beneficial. If, it is kept to the 20 zones (rat runs, down residential streets and outside schools) then I am all for this scheme.

I expect it'll be rolled out everywhere soon though - country wide speed traps across all limits all raking in the cash without addressing the main problem of dangerous / inattentive driving.

One of the roads near me is being dropped from an NSL to a 40 despite no accidents in the past 4 years+ it is being done for 'safety' and they expect to install enforcement in due course. The only reason the road is remotely unsafe at the moment is because they've switched of the lighting at night - combined with the new road surface that hasn't had the lines painted down the edges (for 6 months now). The council has actually done a good job of making the road unsafe, maybe they're hoping for the death of a cyclist or pedestrian so they can justify the new enforcement?

Hi

Not sure on 20 limits being a good idea. They cover a far too wide area just to be for a school or the like, and for the 8000 hours a year when it isn't school kicking out time they are just sending drivers to sleep.

20 limits seem to me to be like 50 limits. Pointless except for shutting up someone by saying "look we are doing something".

Look on the bright side, suspect most 20 limits are not technically legally enforceable.

All the best

Keith

Indeed. Also a large proportion of the signage is not in accordance with the formats laid out by acts of parliament. Particularly, a lot of them have a 20 limit sign on a white background with a black border. The standard format for an advisory sign.

The important question is what direction do they face?
