Post a film or 2. Don't go over the top with reviews etc just brief explanation of what it is and why it is worth watching.

I am trying to increase my film collection and others may want a film to download or something so if you know any older films or indeed new ones then post.

I will post a couple.

If you like teen comedy that is actually funny then Superbad/Pineapple Express/Knocked up

All about teen things e.g. weed, sex, alcohol, sex and weed.

Sex Pot - Awful comedy but hilarious whilst stoned

Castaway. Bloke gets stuck on an island after a plane crash, with a load of packets and parcels. Tom Hank's acting (considering he's on his own for 90% of the film) keeps you involved, and you really feel the emotion when he finally makes fire, he has to remove his own tooth, and he loses Wilson.

No a big fan of films but I do like the wee Indie efforts (Juno, etc)..

The Good Life (2007) - Has had mixed reviews, the bad ones are if you take it too seriously or try comparing it with other films. On it's own I found it to be a little gem that plays more on feeling than thought. Some dude trapped in a wee town and everything around him is shite yet even though it doesn't come to any resolution it's has a nice way of ending- and of course, Zooey manages to make you fall for her once again Laughing

There's more but they involve Zooey and I don't want to end up sounding like a crazed fanatic Shifty

Das Boot

Story about a German U-boat crew in WW2, told from their point of view. You might get pissed when they attack an allied convoy, but by the end you are routing for them to survive.

The best WW2 submarine film by a long way. The sailors are young, and get dirtier and hairier as the story progresses. The onboard conditions are shown far more accurately than any holywood effort.

Go for the subtitled directors cut rather than the dubbed version.

Full TV series was about 7 hours long, the directors cut is over 4 hrs 40.

28 days later. Possibly the greatest horror/zombie movie ever.

Outpost is also well worth the watch.

Mad Max 1/2 (don't even bother with 3). Just brilliant.

The Dark Knight. Worth watching just for the Joker.

The Shawshank Redemption. Amazing.

The Warriors. Another favorite of mine.

True Lies. An Arnie classic but it's actually a really good movie.

Once Were Warriors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyWhToxzKGU need i say more..

I have just watched what was probably the best martial arts films ever.

It is called Chocolate. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183252/

The last fight scene is brilliantly choreographed. Just overall a good film.

Highly recommended, especially if you are into proper original martial arts films e.g. Ong Bak etc

The Terminator.

+1 Gran Torino, amazing ending.

My top 5 favourites.

1. Terminator 2 - Just classic, cult, action, perfection

2. The Hitcher - Rutger hauer chucks out a better performance than blade runner, truly classic cinema, proving that less is more.

3. The Punisher - I know it's not ground breaking cinema but i loved it first time around, watched it on my own, sound up with a couple of beers. It grabbed me from start to finish, i thought the comic book element really came through nicely.

4. Bladerunner - Just stunning, i could watch it again and again.

They are some obvious choices, so here's a list of some brilliance you may have missed.

Brick
The beat my heart skipped
The music of chance
Baise Moi
This is England
Dead mans shoes

I personally found that film dull as hell.
This is England is quality though.
and Dead man's shoes I haven't seen, but it's another Shane Meadows film isn't it?

Most of the obvious ones have been mentioned, so here are a couple of good indie films:

Amelie
Pans Labyrinth
City Of God
Tell No One

Anchorman and 21 Grams are both good films in very different ways.

Also another vote for Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and The Shawshank Redemption, all fantastic films.

I'll put in American history X. Follows a neo-Nazi as he leaves prison, and flashes back to how he got there. At the same time you see his little brother making the same mistakes.

It will change the way you look at curb stones

Something I wrote a couple of months ago, which fits the request...

Here we go then, my favourite 11 films with a brief summary of why. Sure, this ought to be a top ten, but I came up with eleven and couldn’t bring myself to drop one. Since trying to put them in order of greatness would be futile on my part (and would probably be different tomorrow anyway), they’re simply listed alphabetically.

A Few Good Men
This one makes my list as being the only court room drama that really gripped me when I first watched it. Tom Cruise puts in a sterling performance but it's Jack Nicholson who grabs your attention. His courtroom monologue is as stunningly delivered as it is scripted. All in all this is a riveting piece which, unusually, was based on a play.

Fight Club
Brad Pitt lined up alongside the excellent Edward Norton in this cult classic, and better casting could not have taken place. My original viewing of this film left me somewhat bemused and under whelmed, but I often caught myself thinking about it in the days that followed. Repeated sittings revealed this film as more than just a 'beat 'em up' and provided multiple aspects with which to view society. Pitt's performance as the somewhat deranged Tyler Durden is little short of genius, leading right up his character's exposé and a twist that, despite claiming otherwise, caught viewers off guard.

Layer Cake
Daniel Craig's stand out performance in this crime film undoubtedly strengthened his case when he was later being considered for the role of James Bond. Immaculately paced, well cast and suitably dark, this film portrays everything that you imagine the London underworld to be. Director, Matthew Vaughn, who produced 'Lock, Stock' and 'Snatch' leans on some of Richie's visions but this film takes a different route and stands by itself.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
This was a truly remarkable directorial debut from the future Mr Madonna, Guy Richie. It combined an intricate plot with likeable characters and a large dose of black humour. It's also worth mentioning that it launched both Jason Statham and (the unlikely) Vinny Jones into the Hollywood spotlight.

Pulp Fiction
If Reservoir Dogs raised the awareness of director Tarantino, then Pulp Fiction placed him firmly on the map. Plot twists and character interaction earned the film a nomination for the Best Picture Oscar and, along with co-writer Roger Avary, snatched the Best Writer Oscar for the director. This is the film credited with reviving John Travolta's career while providing Bruce Willis with the chance to explore a slightly different role than his usual fare. Samuel L Jackson's "Ezekiel" speech will go down in film history, not to mention his role providing wallet manufacturers with an excuse to write "Bad Motherfucker" across their products.

Reservoir Dogs
Tarantino’s first movie, made on a low budget. What makes this work is not special effects or explosions, it's the great dialogue and acting. Almost entirely shot in a warehouse this film requires nothing more than good actors and a great script to succeed. For Tarantino, this is surely one of the great directorial debuts. Michael Madsen will probably never again be allowed in the same room as a radio and razor.

Se7en
Brad Pitt's finest performance on film, this dark, intentionally depressing, film ended on a note which shocked much of Hollywood. Director David Fincher had allegedly told the studio he wouldn't be involved if they forced him down the road of the traditional Hollywood ‘happy ending’, which had been story boarded. I, for one, applaud his decision as the movie would have suffered for the change and lost the gritty edge which completed it.

Snatch
Richie's follow up to 'Lock Stock' was a sequel of sorts, although with different characters and a detached story. So, not a sequel at all then. Regardless, it combined the same elements albeit in a different mix with a slightly more comedic edge. The formula worked again as this crime caper hits the spot in almost every area. Statham and Jones returned and even Brad Pitt joined the fray as a gypsy boxer, of all things.

The Godfather
THE gangster movie; accept no substitute. Sure, Goodfellas and Casino are remarkable flicks but this one is the daddy. I'm not speaking from experience but this film feels authentic, both in the way the relationships are portrayed and how events unfold. One of the films that pushed Al Pacino towards stardom and spawned an equally impressive sequel.

The Matrix
When a film ignites so many copies, of its distinctive style if not content, then it's not too glowing a judgement to proclaim it as groundbreaking. The Wachowski brothers created a masterpiece of science fiction which is unlikely to be bettered in my lifetime. Keeping in mind that most sci-fi films rely on the 'wow' effect and the instant gratification of CGI rather than plot or storyline, it's great to see this movie produce a premise that is genuinely thought provoking. Sure, it's not a literal masterpiece but it's more than a match for the film's breathtaking visuals. Even Keanu Reeves's deadpan delivery works in this film and he is ably backed by the scene stealing presence of Laurence Fishbourne and the quirky performance of Hugo Weaving.

The Usual Suspects
More twists than a twisty thing on a helter skelter. This cult classic blew over many people's heads when it was released (several people walked out of the half full cinema I watched it in) but, again, I loved the character interaction set against the backdrop of mystery and intrigue. Spacey's performance as the (non) cripple mastermind criminal is nothing short of masterful and the casting, as well as the script, is spot on.
