Hi there, my motorbike came to me with a weak battery.
Lately I had to charge it every couple of days.
I looked at the battery 12v 6ah, and I ordered a replacement 'gel' battery of the same specifications.

Now I've found out that this motorbike comes with 12v 4ah fitted.
Nothing bad should a happened as It was running on 6ah battery for last 3 months.
However as the battery was weak the seller could just put his used battery in it so it wasnt true 6ah.
I should get new battery tomorrow.
Do you guys have any experince with fitting higher capacity batteries to motorbikes?
Did you experince any problems?

You didn't say what bike it's going on.

Just holds more charge.

I suppose the only potential problems are it makes the alternator work a bit harder to keep it topped up or if it's a weedy charging system, that it may be unable to keep it topped up.

Can't really see it causing a major problem to be honest.

I'm guessing at a 4Ah standard battery, it is kick start?

Should be ok. Pretty sure those have a proper charging system.

There is an outside chance it could be a bit sluggish on the starter if you do lots of short runs which don't give it a chance to fully charge but I suspect you'll actually find it will be better than the 4Ah one.

The only other potential issue is if it fits in the battery compartment but if you've ordered the same one as is already in there, no problem.

It had some old 6Ah battery. Left it with lights on for 20 min(not the low or high beam, just a small bulb in the middle + clock lights) and it went flat. Other time I stopped to make a phone call. I turned the engine off (left the lights on). I've been on the mobile only 2 minutes
Mr. Green The battery went flat Mr. Green

I had no problems in using a Honda CBR400 spec battery in my Peugeot Speedfight 100. It was a higher (ah) rated unit, but i chose it as the battery dimensions were the same, except for it being about 3/4" taller than the std battery. I did have to get a longer rubber mounting strap from another bike to secure it, but that was easy to change.

Going on the fact that Hmmmz' 400 has a 16ah, probably not a great thing. I did kill it once by leaving the ignition on whilst fiddling with wiring. >_<

Never had any problems with it though, apart from that one time, which was my own stupid fault.
