Hi all,

I know some rs125' do (rotax kart motors are basicly rs motors) but are there any others models? not to big tho as It will be going on a kart replacing a vortex 100cc push start motor.

2 strokes would be better I guess so that I can turn the barrel and piston round and have the exhaust run across the back of the kart,

the MZ two strokes have right side chains, and the barrels can be turned round.

Come in 125, 150, 250 and 300 flavours and have plenty of tuning options available-check out https://www.mz-racing.co.uk/

My KTM 350 had it on the right, should make an interesting kart motor - only around 50hp, but a 2 stroke with no powervalve Smile. Not physically big, but more power than you're looking for perhaps.
Mine was an 87 model.

Not sure if it has the same engine as the RS125 but the Aprilia AF1 has a RHS chain iirc Smile

Hi

Pretty much all Rotax engines have chains on the right. Loads of kart engines, and the 127 (early AF1), 123 (later AF1 and early RS125) and 122 (late RS125) engines are all Rotax sourced ones.

Most (if not all) KTMs use chains on the right.

Some older Ducatis had chains on the right.

Suspect the cheapest solution for a kart would be an old disk valve Rotax kart engine. Should be pretty cheap to pick up.

All the best

Keith

not all ktm's have right hand chain,

my mz500 (rotax engined) does, its an enclosed chain to boot,
with the joy that is a left hand side kick start,

all the old ccm bikes (rotax engines) had them along with the milatary mt500 and 350's
customs have them depending on the transmission they have installed

The 2 stroke MZs could be nasty.

Trying to kick over a high compression (9-1) 291cc two stroke single with a kickstarter about 15cm long is no easy feat. The one and only time i didnt wear boots, it kicked back and cracked a bone in my foot.

surprisingly the 4 stroke mz, is a breeze, even with out using the de-compression lever.
it just means you have to hop off the bike to kick it over,

my old wr400 was a real bastard, you had to let go of the de-comp lever at just the right time, too early and she'd kick back and too late and you'd have to go through the process again, electric starts on big singles was the best thing they ever did Very Happy

Modern 2 stroke KTMs have it on the correct side, think the 4 strokes do too; the modern LC4s definitely do.

Husaberg upto 2007 or something were all the other side, but probably not looking for a big cc highly tuned 4 stroke.
