Hi all,
if i was putting a 2t engine back together. (today) & I didnt have the paper centre case gasket . (which will take a few days arrive if ordered Mon.)
what would be the best bodge type liquid gasket to use?
bearing in mind my local motor factors is open today & if it works, i could have a running engine today.
& seeing as the engine is only held on with 3 bolts, i could have the bike operational by tomorow.
cheers,
GAZ

Hi

I wouldn't. As if you find it doesn't seal then you have already used all the other gaskets which would need replacing).

All the best

I think even more importantly than that is that the gasket is also a spacer - not having the spacer could well have ramifications.

Anyway, to answer the OPs question, I find instant gasket does the physical sealing job really well. Thumbs Up

As been said, the centre gasket is usually a spacer as well, so it is likely that the engine wont turn over without it as everything is being squashed.

I know that on any c90 based engine it is anyway. I always say that if there is a gasket there when you take it apart, there needs to be one there when you put it back together.

Why don't you just make one?

I wondered if the centre gasket does anything important.
is just paper after all....
oh well off to get screwed for honda parts & postage.
i could make one, but im not known for my cutting skills.
could re-use the old one though... in conjunction with instant gasket (if its torn anywhere)
cheers,
GAZ

While the width is important, if you make it yourself then you need the use the same thickness of gasket material. You can buy gasket paper in various thicknesses, but a cornflakes packet will be massively thicker.

All the best

Depends on what engine.
ie: High performance 300cc engine may be a bit less tolerant .... but in the days when I ran 50cc and 125cc 2 strokes, I would use a cornflake packet and instant gasket.
Just be careful about cutting the water jacket holes properly and dont over do the instant gasket stuff.

My 125LC ran on that for a year. Thumbs Up

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Anyone suggest a place online that sells gasket paper?

The gasket that I'm trying to make is bigger than the size that most gasket paper sheets come in (12" square) and is narrower than the 1mm width that most gasket paper rolls that I've seen come in.
Thanks.
