Xbox Repair

Just got into work, ready to settle down to a day of MW2, and my xbox won't read any discs. It just shows "Open Tray" on the my xbox menu.
I've taken it apart and cleaned the laser with a cotton bud, but no change. Anything else I should try before I start replacing parts?

Unfortunately I think this is another in the long list of common faults with the 360, if you've cleaned the lens with no joy then you're probably going to need a new drive.

Obviously don't go to Microsoft because they will want to bum your bank account into submission for the privilege!

If you want to fix it yourself I have a spare drive on my now defunct 1st 360 console that you can have for the cost of the postage?

Thanks for that! Looks like it's working for now, the sliding part that the laser sits on didn't seem as if it was clicked in place. Moved it about 10mm and it clicked back in - now it's working. Don't know how long for though. Do you know what drive is in yours? This is a Philips.

I haven't a clue what it is as I haven't opened it up yet. But if you do get any more problems with it, I'll still have mine so just contact me and I'll remove it and whack it in the post for ya!
