Check over ALL bolts. Even ones that don't look important.
Try to feel where the vibration is from and search there =]

about from being italian the vibration can come from alot of places. take off the covers to start with and rotate parts by hand and feel for slack in every direction.

does it vibrate when in gear? not in gear? or both?

that might point to either gearbox or not gearbox. you may need to split the engine to check the main bearings or you might be able to spot a problem there just with the barrel of. check for play in the big end and small end bearings too.

hi mate,
yea happens while riding and standing there.

its not a bearing fault i THINK thats the mounting may be wrong or not tight enough...or the balancer shaft is out.

ive had the top end off and the bearings are fine.

cheers

I've just bought a cagiva planet with similar issues that was rebuilt by brookes racing 500miles go on doing a bit of looking about it seems there is a problem with the post 98 motors (mito, planet..more or less the same) the balancer shaft has a steel gear that has springs in it to act as a cush drive type setup only these springs on the latter engines can snap allowing the gear to be up to 2 teeth out. so long as the engine was put back together right by the last owner then this is most likely your issue. but try as suggested above as well!

with that sort of vibration,i'd say the balance shaft is 180 degrees out, easy to sort out, check where the dots are on the gearing against the manual(clutch casing has to come off though),don't trust the manual either, they have swapped bdc and tdc round.....

hi mate,

well ive contacte dthe previous owner and he says the clutch side has never been taken off and is standerd.....so that leaves mountings.

gonn ahave a cheack tonight and see if i can fugure it out.

i had this problem with the previous engine that was in it....and no matter what i did with the balancer shaft it allways vibrated.

and seeing as there is no rubber mountings o the engine to 'coushion' it id expect it to be slightly vibrateish.

cheers

right went out tonight and i tightend the front crossmember up (had about 3/4 of thread left on the nut but was fairly tight) i then tightend up the rear pin with a big 3/4 wheel brace and that had about 1/3 of wind in but was very tight.

started the bike up and there dosent seem to be much differance?

But i do remember a while back when i took the engine out for the 1st time (this was about 12 months back) there were 2 washers either side of the rear moutung pin (swing arm attaches to aswell) which i couldent fot back in as it was so damm tight...scince then i have lost these washers and put it back without them.

now could this be my problem?

ive tried to feel wher ethe engine is vibrating the most but it isnt that much realy its more the rest of the frame etc...

ive tried 'wobbling' the engine and there is no play that i can gather.

cheers
