CB400 VTEC not starting

Hi guys,

I have a CB400 SFY HyperVTEC. I bought a new CDI for it but still doesn't startup. However if I try using a CDI from a non-VTEC cb400, it starts and runs fine, sans the VTEC engaging.

What could be the problem here?

I suspect it is a fault with the Vtec mechanism itself. Do you know if the ECU performs a self test on the Vtec before it will start? It could be the mechanism is physically jammed, and the self test can't initiate when you switch the ignition on.

Do you know how the Vtec works on this particular bike? I assume its different from the VFR800 Vtec...?

i thought the vtec was switched when the oil pressure reached a certain level.

any way of checking if oil pressure has dropped?
