I have a Kawasaki GT550 g9 1989 .Today I obtained a rear tyre, Avon Super Venom am18 on a decent wheel for the bike. On the front I have a Bridgestone Battleax. Is it ok to fit the Avon on the rear and so have tyres from different manufactures? , Im thinking of just changing the rear wheels over as the tyre is already fitted and balanced to the wheel it came with.

Thanks

Are they both radials? Don't think you can put a radial on the front and a crossply on the back, fine the other way round though. I wouldn't worry about mixing makes though as long as they are both the right sizes and speed ratings.

Yep, I do this sort of thing all the time!! Thumbs Up

It should be noted that 'matched pairs' are just that, the profiles of them are coincidental so they give the most predictable handling characteristics. A mix and match will be just that, so the bike probably won't handle quite as well as on a matched pair .... some mix and match pairs will work well together, others will 'fight' each other a bit, so be more noticeable.

In summery, yes you can do it, but it MIGHT not handle as well as on a matched pair ... but if you are simply using the bike to commute ... who cares?!!? Wink

i use a BT45 on the front and a Conti Twist SM on the rear

I found this to be quite a nice setup for me...shed loads of rear grip and the faith i have in the bt45 is why the front is like that Razz
