Am I the only one who has this problem? Or can someone help?

Now the nights are drawing in, I have to commute home in the dark - scary enough with the crap headlight I have, but the taillight is nice and bright so.......

How come pretty much all car drivers fail to dip their lights behind me? The way my mirrors are set up mean I get a full face of headlight - thanks very much.

Not wanting to incite a riot, but 4x4's are the worst, their headlights are at the 'right' level to make me swerve on occasions.

Any tips on avoiding the headlights? If I adjust my mirrors I don't seem to have any clue what's behind me, and in my opinion thats pretty important.

In my experience, bikes are generally a lot worse for this - their lights tend to be a bit higher than normal cars (though not as high as 4x4s).
Also, when accelerating bikes (maybe yours less so Smile) tend to pitch upwards more than cars do, meaning the dipped beam is a lot more likely to blind others.

Wonder if you can get some sort of covering to help dim the glare?

I never have a problem with cars behind me, it's the cars that come towards me on corners, and when it's pitch black, and they don't dim their lights, it's literally blinding, i can't see anything, cats eyes, white lines, verge reflectors, nothing at all, and it's quite scary on the bends, because suddenly the road appears in front of you.

I hate drivers like that, inconsiderate wankers Middle Finger

I think car drivers (and other riders) tend to treat the ped riders badly. I've noticed buggers staying on full beam when a ped or scoot is coming the other way, but then dipping for other cars and bigger bikes. Out of order as the slowpeds are normally ridden by the least experienced riders.

I have had this, a lot of the time its when I overtake. If I overtake and they don't dip after a while, I slow down and then slam on and then make some sort of suggestion with my hand Smile

Like other people I always get the ones who are late dipping when I go towards them, in that case the 'wan*er switch' gets used.

I agree.

I mean at night, you can see peoples lights from a distance, I always make sure mine are dipped before I see their lights in full.

Then they carry on, dip them just as they pass you.

When I can't see anything I literally just aim for the left of the 2 bright white lights in front of me and hope they aren't a tractor or have a trailer Laughing

Id like to add to that people who drive around without a full set of lights. So you see one bright light and one dim one so they stick their fog lights and high beams on and you can't see anything. Or they only have one light working completely and you think its a bike....

Living in the country I get this a lot. On the short 10 minute trip back from my boyfriends house I once counted 20 cars with shitty headlights.

A lot of modern vehicles have headlights on all the time with no way to turn them off. I added a switch to the KTM so I could turn mine off manually.

it's mainly the fog light thing that pisses me off. Laughing

Well, my solution is to veer across the road as though so blinded and disorientated, I've lost control and might collide with oncoming gobshite. It's surprising how quickly they dip their lights when you do that Laughing

Don't know what's up lately - the old bill must be slipping in their quest to prosecute for every minor offence going as every other car seems to have a headlight or brake light out these days.
